Wrapping Up 2019!
The end of the year excitement is upon us! Each grade level has wonderful activities and field trips in the coming days to culminate their studies and learning this year. We wish all of our students the best as they finish off another year and prepare for summer vacation.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for our rainy Open House. What a great night to showcase student learning, achievement, and hard work. We hope you enjoyed your classroom visits! A big thank you to Maestro Stewart and the Advanced Band for their performance, as well as SEF and our parent volunteers, for organizing the pizza dinner. Although our original plans were stifled by the rain, we had a fantastic indoor concert. We hope you enjoyed your evening with us.
As the school year ends, there are many changes on the horizon for BHS. Gail Marsh & Jeff Stucker are retiring this year, each celebrating over 30 years in the district. We wish them all of the best as they enter a new phase of their life that we are sure will be full of relaxation, travel & fun. We also send positive wishes to those who are moving on to other positions; Alice Keegan, Shea Harper, Cindi Erickson, Kevin Stewart & Tamara Parnay. Together, we have made fantastic changes, seen great student growth this year and I am thankful to have worked with them all.
Looking toward next year we are looking forward to welcoming Elisanne Wells-Garcia (5th Grade), Madeleine O'Rear (6th Grade Math & Science), Sarah Casteneda (6th Grade ELA & History), Ali Alvarado (RSP) & Tera Crawford (7/8 Art). Additionally, Joe Aiello will be moving from 5th grade to 7/8 Grade Math and we are currently working with Analy High to hire a new band teacher. We have a well-rounded team in place and are excited about what is in store for the 2019-2020 school year.
Additionally, the SUSD School Board approved a contract with Carr Construction to begin the remodeling/addition to the former Library/Drama room building. The building underwent earthquake retrofitting last summer and we are happy the project is moving forward. We are expecting the demo work to begin as soon as school is out. The exciting new space will include a multi-purpose room, stage, classroom, kitchen & bathrooms. This is sure to be a wonderful addition to our campus & community!
I wish all of our students and families a summer filled with family-fun, exploring and learning. May you have time to relax and recharge too! I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with you all this year. Brook Haven is a fantastic place of learning and our students and teachers should be proud of their achievements.
See you in August!

Interact Update
On Monday, April 29, 10 Brook Haven Interact Club Members, accompanied by advisors, Ms. Miller & Mr. Stucker, visited the Apple Valley Acute Care Residence. This facility houses and cares for elderly persons who are healing from post-surgery and/or other serious conditions. Most are age 75 +.
Interactors, which included Jazlyn, Adanna, Katelyn B, Eric, Henry, Dahlia, Sophia B.B., Betsy, Jeamy, and Hanna, interviewed 6 different residents. The residents shared stories from their childhood and past. Interact members also performed two choral songs and Jeamy performed a beautiful ethnic Latin dance. Overall, it was a proud moment for Brook Haven to reach out to our community and give like these students!
Interact members are in the process of voting on which charitable organizations they will be donating to this year. We look forward to finding out at our end of the year assembly on May 31. The money to donate is raised by activities like the lollipop & ice cream sales.
