English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below is a description of each component and what your child will be learning the upcoming week.
Daily Message
This week in Daily Message we will
- identify characteristics sentence such as spacing between words, end mark, and capital letter at the beginning.
- identify the noun and describing words in a sentence.
Word Work
This week in Word Work we will...
- identify, create, and write _at and _an word families.
- segment words by syllables.
- produce a rhyme.
Shared Reading
This week in Shared Reading we will...
- act out new words.
- use details in illustrations to better understand the story.
- identify the sight word orange, little, big, and green.
Grammar/Writing
This week in Grammar/Writing we will...
- identify nouns and adjectives.
- share ideas by drawing, writing, and/or dictating.
- cut and glue or write a word to complete a sentence.
- describe and draw fall produce.
- Drawing pictures that match sentences.
Centers
This week in Centers we will...
- sort pictures into the _at and _an families.
- follow directions in order to create a paper bag pumpkin.
- trace, cut out, and glues numbers 1 to 20 in order.
- add words in order to create a pumpkin book.
Math
Unit 2: Counting and Comparing
This week in math we will...
- practice counting, and connecting number words, numerals, and quantities.
- create a number book.
- learn how to play Grab and Count.
- continue to count, represent, and record objects in a counting jar.
Content
Science
This week in Science we will...
- identify and retell the growth of a pumpkin.
- use the senses to explore the inside of a pumpkin.
Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we will...
- identify the equipment and jobs of a crop farmer.
Specials
Monday - Art (wear an art smock)
Tuesday - Music
Wednesday - P.E. (wear sneakers)
Thursday - Library (return library books)
Friday - Dance (wear sneakers)

Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
We will celebrate monthly birthdays on the last Friday (if possible) of each month. Parents are welcome to celebrate their child's birthday with us. Please make sure that you have completed and returned the volunteer application and training/certificate. There is no food allowed at these celebrations. However, your child may choose to share a book for our class library, a game for indoor or outdoor recess, a small item like a pencil, or a craft to do during the celebration.
