Media

What Media is to me.
In this day and age media is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Some people cannot live without it and most thrive for it. Media is the mass means of communication around the world. There are over 6 billion people in our world as of 2014 and it is still growing. Out of that number 1/3 of our world uses the media in their daily lives. Without media there are many things we wouldn’t know. If you think about it media has been used for a very long time. Media goes back before the television or the radio was invented. This media was called newspaper, which was read back in the days of the 13 states. There are many positive and negative aspects of the media. For example, the media can be music, learning, teaching, and even reading. The negatives of media could be harmful to our lives and affect how we view things. In my generation we love social media and it is used every single day. This is our new way of communicating with friends and family. These social media sites are Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Meetme, Tumblr, and many more. Media literacy is having the ability to read television and mass media. This skill is not obtained by everyone mostly because they have not been exposed to media. For example in some 3rd world countries people may not be media literate. The good thing about the media is that it could help you learn how to read. We love to connect and we cannot do that without the media.

Chobani Precis
Chobani in their super bowl commercial “yogurt bear” informs their audience how natural the ingredients are in their Greek yogurt and state at the end of their commercial that their yogurt is as natural as they can make it. Chobani supports their argument by saying even a bear would want to eat their yogurt. The commercial’s purpose is to get people to buy their product and know it is the best of all the other companies in order to earn more revenue for their business. Chobani adds humor to their commercial to get attention to the audience of men and women age 18-35 who eat healthy.
Gwinnett County's amazing school food
Gwinnett- In the great county of Gwinnett a kid gets trampled in the lunch line breaking both of his legs.
This incident occured at Peachtree ridge high school which has the best lunch food in the country.
"Sometimes I starve myself just to eat more food at school," said Billy, who tries to go to school during the weekend.
He said he almost bit his finger clear off from eating the finger lickin chicken fingers.
The clinic lady, Mrs. Buns said that she knew what had happened before the boy even said anything. "I have kids come in here all times of the day almost biting their fingers off I just give them some antiseptic and tape the finger back and they run off to eat again."
This news has been spread world wide about how good their food is.
You would think that everyday is black Friday because when it's lunchtime it's kill or be killed. When you look in the eyes of the student's it's like they're possessed.
"Have you ever been to a zoo and saw how animals attack their food? It's the same exact thing", said Dr. Muffin who is the principal at the school.
The school is starting to become to overpopulated due to all the kids moving into the area. A parent said, "my kid told me he tried the food at Peachtree Ridge and said it was so good that we had to move there or he would just go live at the school so I had to move there."
The Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill
The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico occurred on April 20, 2010. This was the largest oil spill in history of all oil spills. There was an attack on the Deep water Horizon oil rig by the United States' biggest enemy North Korea. They sent a submarine across the seas near Louisiana and sunk the oil rig. There were 300 fatalities on the oil rig and one man named Jack survived to tell the story. He said, “It was late at night and no one saw an attack coming all my co-workers died that day.” The North Korean submarine shot at the oil pipes which ended up leaking oil and gas on the ocean floor. Once the pipes were finally capped 5 months later an estimated 205 million gallons of oil had leaked into the Gulf. The worst part about the oil spill was that it is so close to public beaches. Workers from BP and Trans ocean tried to control the spread of the oil to the beaches and other ecosystems using floating booms to contain surface oil and chemical oil dispersants to break it down underwater. This is a huge threat to not only human lives but also endangers sea life. A scientific study shows that more than 82,000 birds, 6,000 sea turtles, 26,000 marine mammals and many other fish and invertebrates may have been harmed by the spill and its aftermath. The spill oiled more than 1,000 miles of shoreline which may be making waters more toxic for species. The oil began spreading further out to the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Once the oil reached the shore of the beaches many people were affected by it. There were 100 deaths from people swallowing the toxic oil. Therefore, every beach that was on the gulf coast was closed down until scientist said that the water was safe enough to swim in. It has only gotten worse from there with the oil spill. Nearby states that were getting water from that part of the ocean weren't aware of the incident until after distributing it to their people. Many got sick from drinking the water which raised a lot of concern in America. The current president of the United States then stated that the United States is in a state of emergency. All distribution of water from the Gulf of Mexico was immediately stopped and nearby states had to provide water for those without. As of now BP has the worst environmental and safety record of any oil company operating in America. Still today there is oil floating around in the Gulf of Mexico.
1984 Theme song
The song “Pretenders” by the foo fighters could be a great theme song for the book, 1984. In the book it talks about how involved the government is in everyone’s daily lives and how easily they control people. But two people in the book Winston and Julia did not want to follow the rules and rebelled against big brother. In the lyrics of the song they say, “what if I say I will never surrender.” This is a pure example of what Winston in the end of the book said he wouldn't surrender and not be able to see Julia ever again. Another lyric in the song that relates to the book is where he says, “I’m the hand that will take you down.”. In the book 1984 this hand is the hand of the government that will take anyone down that rebels against it. This song is a perfect fit for the book 1984 especially because of its sound filled harmony like a rock song.
Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend
Keep you in the dark
And so it all began
Send in your skeletons
Sing as their bones go marching in... again
The need you buried deep
The secrets that you keep are ever ready
Are you ready?
I'm finished making sense
Done pleading ignorance
That whole defense
Spinning infinity, boy
The wheel is spinning me
It's never-ending, never-ending
Same old story
[Chorus (x2):]
What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?
In time or so I'm told
I'm just another soul for sale... oh, well
The page is out of print
We are not permanent
We're temporary, temporary
Same old story
[Chorus x2]
I'm the voice inside your head
You refuse to hear
I'm the face that you have to face
Mirrored in your stare
I'm what's left, I'm what's right
I'm the enemy
I'm the hand that will take you down
Bring you to your knees
So who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend
[Chorus x2]
[x2]
What if I say I'm not like the others?
(Keep you in the dark)
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
(You know they all... pretend)
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?
So who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
Yeah, who are you?
My reflection on Media Literacy
I learned many things in my time being in media literacy. I’ve learned what media is and that people all over the world use it for different purposes. There are illiterate humans in places such as 3rd world countries that use the media to learn. I learned how to write a thorough precis, which is a short summary of an article or even a commercial. I was taught how to write a satirical story in a short amount of time. We watched a movie called V for vendetta which was exciting and at the same time eye opening. It showed me what the world can become if the government keeps putting regulations on our life to protect us. Then we read the book 1984 which also foreshadowed what our world could become and sort of how it is now. What I am taking from this class is that we need social media in our lives. As humans we are apt to connect with others and communicate. Ever since the Neanderthal days we communicated. People will do whatever they can to make themselves happy no matter how it affects others. We will cheat to look better than the opposition we will lie to not have to tell an embarrassing truth. This class is different from all my other language arts classes because they actually reflect on the outside world. I can apply the knowledge I gain in this class in the real world. With other classes we just read books and took test on them. In this class we analyzed them and compared them to life. I believe that there are some things that should be done differently in the future to make the class better. For example, talking about different subjects more thoroughly to help with learning for the future as we grow up. It should be even further focused on life and how it should be lived.
