United States enters World War II
Bombing of Pearl Harbor
Bombing of Pearl Harbor
This catastrophic event is the reason why we entered World War II. On December 7, 1941 Japanese fighter planes came swooping over the island of Oahu, Hawaii destroying most of the United States Pacific fleet including the USS Arizona. Over 2,000 people died and over 1,000 more injured.
Japan
The reason why the Japanese wanted to invade the United States was because of economic problems. The Japanese thought that the only way to resolve their economic problems was to expand their land. First they invaded China which led to the United States not supporting what they did. Then Japan planned on trying to invade the United States and expanding from there. War between these two countries were inevitable.
United States
A day later after the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan. About 2 years later the United States officially entered World War II.
