A Principal's Perspective
"The juice is worth the squeeze." This is a quote shared yesterday at our district's Understanding by Design workshop focusing on assessment and the lessons that we choose to teach. As the presenter shared classroom lessons, performance tasks and assessments in actual classrooms, it got me thinking about instructional time. We all know that it is limited, right? We decide what we do with the time we have with our students. We all have heard the notion of the day is long, but the year is short. As we look back and reflect on May 24th, our students' last day, about our instructional year, how do we make sure that the instruction that we designed was worth the squeeze? What does that look like for you, the classroom teacher, as you design the lesson, choose the activity and determine the assessment? There were several classroom videos shared during our workshop. I would like to share one with you. As you view it, what elements of the lessons highlighted do you feel are worth the squeeze? Why?
Be innovative - Design the possibilities!
