What is Syphilis?
A sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacteria called spirochete.
How is Syphilis transmitted?
*Through direct contact with a syphilis sore during sex
*From mother to baby during pregnancy
*Can't be spread through objects
Signs & Symptoms
*Chancres (sores) appear on vagina, rectum, penis, or mouth
*Swollen glands
*Rash on hands and feet
*Flu-like symptoms
Treatment
*Antibiotics
*Visiting a medical doctor or a gynecologist
*Blood tests to look for infection
Problems
*Possible death
*Contagious
*Passes onto child if the diagnosed mother is pregnant
*Difficulty walking
*Numbness
*Blindness
*Affects the brain, heart, spinal cord & bones
