Field Trip to Lansing
Upon returning from our Mid-Winter Break on Tuesday, each student was given a field trip information form/ permission slip to bring home in preparation for our upcoming trip to the State Capitol and Michigan History Museum on March 1st. If, for any reason, the pink field trip form did not make it home with your student, please reach out and I can make sure to send another one home as soon as possible. If all students could please have their permission slips signed and money turned into me by Tuesday, February 27th, it would be greatly appreciated!
If you are planning ahead and think that you would like to volunteer to join us on the field trip, please let me know so I can have an accurate count of how many adults and students our class will be attending on the 1st. All adults who wish to volunteer will need to complete an iChat form in advance (which can be accessed/completed by clicking the link below), so the school can ensure that we have an up-to-date background check form on file for each volunteer before heading to Lansing. As always, if you happen to have any further questions, please feel free to reach out. :)

Belding Schools Millage Renewal
On February 27th, our Belding Schools millage is up for renewal. If you missed the Daily News article further explaining the details of this millage that is up for vote, you can find a link to the article below.
Embarc Online (Math Curriculum Resource)
Recently, our Math interventionist was kind enough to introduce me to an awesome online resource that I didn't even realize existed! 🙂 EMBARC.Online is a website designed to provide parents/families and teachers with a variety of different materials that come straight from our district EngageNY math curriculum. I love it because it very easy to navigate! Families that are interested in checking out this site can use the link below (or find it by typing "EMBARC online" into their Google search engine).
Once on the EMBARC home page, you will see a list of grade levels at the top of the page. Scroll over the "4th Grade" icon and then click on "Module 5" (our next unit that we will be beginning this coming Monday, February 19th) from the dropdown tab. Once you have been redirected to the Module 5 page, you will find all of the lessons within this new Fractions unit. For each lesson, there is an informational video that provides step-by-step examples of how to complete problems that mirror the problems found on the students' homework pages coming home with them nightly. (*You can find the current lesson number in the top, right corner of each homework sheet). There is even a "Homework Solutions" link for each lesson that has a master copy of the completed homework assignment sheet, so you can take a look at it and see exactly what it is that students are being asked to do for each question.
Math
Language Arts
In Language Arts, we are continuing to work through our fourth Wonders curriculum unit-of-study. Next week, we will be reading/studying a variety of different narrative poems and students will even be given the opportunity to create their very own piece of narrative poetry! 😀
Social Studies/Science
In our Social Studies/Geography unit, we have continued focusing on the different regions of the United States. This week, we have been researching the Midwest region and all of it's unique qualities, including: landforms, bodies of water, economic activities, climate, and other fun facts relating to this specific region in which we live. If you get a moment, see if your student can name a few (or all 12!) of the states that make up the Midwest region of our country.
Classroom Supplies
When I opened our classroom supplies cupboard the other day, I quickly realized that our Kleenex and disinfecting wipes stash is almost out. If you would like to donate either of these items, we would gladly accept them. With cold and flu season in full-swing, we will put them to good use! 😉
