Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 2 | 27 JULY 2022
In the Kindy we are developing knowledge in number, algebra, measurement and geometry. Explicit teaching and children’s active involvement by investigating and communicating builds their understanding of mathematical concepts.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
We had a wonderful first week at school, with the children settling quickly into their learning and classroom routines. We have noticed so many children displaying our behaviour focus for Weeks 1 and 2 which is to be considerate of and polite to others. It is fabulous to see the children trying so hard and making such a great effort to demonstrate respect in this way.
This week, Kids Academy commenced before and after school operations at our Our Lady of Mercy Primary School. The lovely Rhonda and Shauna are the staff employed by Kids Academy to look after our children. If you are interested in enrolling your child into the Kids Academy program, please collect an enrolment form from the front office.
If you drop off or pick up your child from the basketball courts or Koman Way, you may have noticed that start of our new land development. We are incredibly fortunate to have the very talented Mr McPhail oversee the development of this new oval space and creative play area. We hope that the new area will be ready for the start of the 2023 school year.
Thank you to families in Years 4 to 6 who are collecting their children from either the basketball courts or Koman Way exits. This has really helped alleviate the volume of traffic through Kiss and Drive.
Next week at our whole school Mass on Friday 5th of August, we will launch a project that our school is getting involved in with Our Lady of Mercy parish. Together, our school and parish will be assisting the West Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office collect food and personal items for asylum seekers living in the Girrawheen area. We will collect food items for four weeks and then our staff will deliver these items to the Red Cross for distribution. Please see suggested food items further on in the newsletter.
As we become God’s hands in helping local refugees and asylum seekers, we call to mind Psalm 31 which says:
In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
