Demi Lovato's stress all started when she starred in camp rock. When she became more popular she started to feel self conscious about her body and developed an eating disorder and started cutting. Demi Lovato had the stress of being a role model. When doing interviews she would say that she hated being a role model to kids. When she was doing an MTV interview she stated that she felt like a hypocrite because she was "partying and self medicating" and she wondered "why parents would what their kids to be like me."

From Disney kid to Global star, she has a new found confidence- hence the title to her newly released album, Confident. After battling with self harm and mental illness she opened up with this cover story to Complex. She surrounds herself with her core group of friends, the kind of friends that will be there for her in the middle of the night. She has self medicated with drinking alcohol and finally she went to rehab to overcome her struggles. Demi has created a good support system with her not entirely famous friends. Friends are chosen family; she feels very lucky to have them. Her current boyfriend of 5 years helped her get better along the way as well. Before they got together he told her she needed to get help and be sober before she could commit to a relationship. They have been together ever since too. Demi claims she's been through more heavy things in her life but doesn't feel the need to share so no one thinks she's just in it for the sympathy. She's proud of getting through what she has dealt with and been through. She doesn't want people to feel sorry for her as well as always having someone there to make the story worse.

“I have never been confident enough in my own skin to feel sexy,” Lovato admits. “Now that I’m feeling great and I feel confident, I’m proud of the skin that I’m in.”
“I’m wanting to share that with the world and showing everyone how you can go from being very insecure with body image issues to feeling so proud of your body that you want to show it to the world,” she continues.
