Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
This week was full with activities and events.
Students spent WoodburyONE on Thursday browsing presentations from advisers and upperclassmen on each of our club offerings. Clubs explained what their focus would be over the course of the year and were available to answer any questions prospective members may have had. Sign-ups sheets enabled students to join if they were interested. Please encourage your child to join at least one of the following: jazz band, drama, Interact, E-Sports, Science League, SURE/GSA, Be the Change, Sports Medicine, Math League, Art, White & Gold, Varsity, Ceramics, Lady Bug or chess!
Mr. Howey, class advisers, and some student leaders organized the first pep rally for the fall season on Friday. Nothing brings smiles to so many faces like the trill of a drumline at the start of a pep rally as it reverberates off the curved roof of Cap Paine Gymnasium.
Courses are in full swing. Teachers are preparing to meet with parents on Back to School Night next Wednesday, September 25 beginning at 6:00 pm. We hope to see everyone then!
Striving to bring out the best in every student,
Dr. Vivadelli

Howie Staeger Memorial Track
A group of alumni have worked tirelessly to gain approval and raise money to dedicate our track to Howard (Howie) Staeger. Mr. Staeger was the track and field coach at Woodbury High School from 1959 - 1979. During that time, the teams he led amassed 11 championships including 7 consecutive Group 1 State titles, 3 Winter State titles, 4 Winter Relay titles, 9 South Jersey Sectional Titles, and 8 Colonial Conference titles. Mr. Staeger was instrumental in starting the Woodbury Relays - a fixture in the South Jersey track community for 40+ years. The track will be dedicated on Saturday, September 21 before the game at 9:00.
Back to School Night - Grades 7-12
Back to School Night for parents of students in grades 7 -12 will be held on Wednesday, September 25 beginning at 6 pm. Parents will have the opportunity to peruse a club and activity fair in the Gold Cafeteria for the first half-hour. A general assembly where I will give a welcome message will begin at 6:30. Parents will then be able to follow their child's schedule in 10 minute increments. This is a time to meet your child's teachers, understand their expectations through a course syllabus and get a big picture perspective of the direction for the class; this is not a time for individual student conferences. Hopefully, everyone will be able to attend.

How long you have been at Woodbury: This is my first year!
1. What is your "go to" song for the journey to school?
My "go to" song for the journey to school is "A Sky Full of Stars," as arranged and performed by The Piano Guys.
2. Do you have a favorite saying or quote that you try to live by?
There are two quotes that are central to who I am, and that I always try to live by. The first, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, is: "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." The second, by Edith Wharton, is: "There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it."
3. What is one of your hidden talents?
One of my hidden talents is that I play the cello.
4. What are your "trapped on a desert island" books or movies?
My "trapped on a desert island" books are "Blue-Eyed Child of Fortune: The Civil War Letters of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw," "The Killer Angels" by Michael Shaara, "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton, and the "Sherlock Holmes" stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. My "trapped on a desert island" movies are "Glory," "Gettysburg," and the episodes of the BBC television series "Sherlock."
5. If you could take your students on a field trip to anywhere in the world, where would you take them?
If I could take my students on a field trip anywhere in the world, I would love to take them to Europe. Not only would it be a great way for them to experience first-hand many of the places and artifacts that we talk about in Social Studies, but it would also give them the opportunity to experience different cultures, histories, and languages. In particular, I would want to take them to locations such as Paris, Barcelona, Rome, and Berlin, as many of my students expressed a desire to see those places during the team building and "getting to know you" activities that we completed during the first week of school.
6. What is one piece of advice you would give to your students?
One piece of advice that I would give to my students would be to never allow the world to change who you are. There will be moments in life when you may struggle, when all may seem dark, when you may feel like giving up; but always remember, as the Chinese proverb states, that "the difficulties of life are intended to make us better, not bitter." Hold firm to who you are, to what you believe in, to your faith in yourself, and to your dreams. Know that you are not the circumstances of your life nor the words or actions of others; but rather, you are who you decide to be. So be yourself, become the best version of yourself that you can be, pursue your dreams in life, and never let anyone or anything tell you that "you can't." Let yourself shine.
