7 Mindsets-Passion First!

This month we are helping our kids realize their passions and then how to use their passions to do amazing things! Two of our fourth grade students put their passion of helping animals and giving back to the community together and have organized a “Kitty Cat Drive”. They are collecting cat litter, cat food, beds, and toys. The supplies will be donated to the humane society on February 1st. Please send in anything you can to help our kids with this awesome cause! There are boxes in the front office for collection.

Family Ceiling Tile Event

We are getting excited about our Family Ceiling Tile Project! Who's in for some fun? Mark your calendars for Jan 20th!!! Mashburn was awarded a grant to provide materials for our parents to leave their mark. We would LOVE for you to swing by between 6:00-7:30 and spend a few minutes with your family painting a ceiling tile. There is no meeting and it will only take a few minutes. We will hang the tiles all over the school!

K9 Safe Search App

School Resource Officer Adam Campbell recently introduced us to a FREE APP available on the iPhone and Android market called “K9 Safe Search”. K9 Safe Search can be installed on any mobile device that can access the web through WiFi or cellular data. K9 Safe search takes the place of the stock internet browser that comes on the mobile device and filters out words or phrases from an internet search that would otherwise return potentially offensive or adult content. Honoring Our Heroes

The Forsyth County Council PTA is proud to sponsor our annual Honoring Our Community Heroes writing program. This program encourages students to recognize a real life hero that has been special to them and the community we live in. Students will be able to express their gratitude by writing a one page entry describing how this person exhibits generosity, trust, persistence, dedication, leadership, creativity, caring, bravery, imagination, service, courage, or compassion. Look for information in your child’s Friday folder. Entries are due back to your teacher by Friday, January 23rd. We would love for EVERY student to show an Attitude of Gratitude by telling us about their real life hero! Any questions please contact Chelsea Hill at

Blessings in a Backpack

We are collecting canned soups for families in need whose children receive food each week in a backpack through the Blessings in a Backpack Program. This program was started and is managed by students at Lambert High School who wanted to make a difference in the lives of younger students in Forsyth County Schools. Thank you for your support of this valuable program!

Changes to School Breakfast Choices

To help us meet required sodium targets, nonfat chocolate milk will no longer be offered as a breakfast milk choice. We will continue to offer the other Mayfield milk choices: skim, 1% low-fat, as well as nonfat, low sugar strawberry and vanilla flavored milks. Students will be able to enjoy their favorite nonfat chocolate milk at lunch because the sodium limits set for lunch are higher than for breakfast. Additional changes to the breakfast menus and a pilot-testing of healthy yogurt & fruit smoothies will be coming in the spring menus. Remember that eating breakfast at school is a convenient and a healthy way to start the learning day.
