Bookworms & Brain Boosters

In an effort to increase literacy and foster a life-long love of reading, the Education Foundation is excited to continue 'Bookworms & Brain Boosters' in ECISD. This program provides developmentally appropriate books to students in ECISD that they get to take home and keep.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of our donors, this program is now in place at eight ECISD elementary schools, impacting more than 850 students. Each month a member of the Education Foundation visits the participating schools, reads a story to the children, and then gives them their very own book to take home. In many cases, the first book given out in September each year is the first book the student will own.

This program was piloted at Ross Elementary last year and that school reported an increase in student interest, increase in student reading ability, an increase in parental involvement at the school, and a decrease in discipline issues. The most amazing result of this program is the excitement of the students each month when members of the Education Foundation arrive! #priceless

If you would like more information on this program, please contact the Education Foundation office and find out how you can help. Whether its reading a story to a group of students or providing further financial support, your involvement is always desired.

Remembering Dr. Lee Buice

Dr. Lee Buice was a founding member of the Education Foundation Board of Directors and was instrumental in the development of our successful teacher grant program that has provided more than $1.8-million to ECISD teachers for innovative classroom projects that enhance the learning environment for our students.

The Education Foundation wanted to honor her memory with a special gift to the students, teachers, and staff members at Buice Elementary and provided everyone with a book in her memory. You can see photos of the students enjoying their books on our Facebook page.
