Tennessee Education State Standards Review
Provide Feedback on Science Standards
The State Board of Education launched the science standards review website (click here) to collect public feedback on Tennessee’s newly revised grade K–12 science standards. This is the second and final opportunity for public review and feedback on the new science standards, which were first publicly reviewed in fall 2015 and then revised by Tennessee educators over the past several months.
Data collected from the website during this second review period will again be given to a team of Tennessee educators to review and will inform their revision of the state's science standards. After revisions, the committee will propose the revised science standards to the State Board of Education for first reading in July 2016. The state board's final reading of the revised standards will be in October 2016, and implementation will take place in the 2018-19 school year.
This is an important opportunity for educators, parents, and members of the public to share their perspectives and suggest revisions to our current science standards. The deadline for providing feedback is May 13, 2016.
SUMMER CAMPS AND ACTIVITIES
Summer will be here before we know it! Our Kingsport City Schools 2016 Summer Camps, Activities and Learning Opportunities webpage is now LIVE! The list includes D-B sport camps, community camps and educational opportunities. Take note, some camp registration deadlines are in early May.
Help spread the word and check them out at www.k12k.com. Information is updated upon receipt.

DRESS CODE
Please make sure that your students are adhering to the dress code outlined in the KCS student handbook. Frequent issues that are addressed with girls are short shorts, girls' shirts that have spaghetti straps, tank tops, or track shorts that do not meet the appropriate length for shorts. Frequent issues addressed with boys are sagging pants and hoodies that are up. Please know that we try to be reasonable about the dress code expectations, but we do need to be consistent. The issues listed above are the ones that we address most frequently.
Permission Slips
All honors trip permission slips are due by Monday, May 9th.
6th Grade Technology Fees
All students who have paid their 50$ technology fee will be allowed to take their laptop computer home this summer. If the technology fee has not been paid, the computer will need to remain at Sevier over the summer. Fees can be paid in the front office. A reminder of this fee will be sent this week.
