Where Learning Comes First
Principal's Post
Dear Head Community,
Somehow we have already made it to May come Monday! I have been blown away by the third through fifth graders trying their best on the ELA Milestones and the kindergarten through second graders respecting our testing environment. Just a reminder that math is Monday and Tuesday for grades 3-5, and Thursday is science (fifth grade only). We will have so much to celebrate at the end of the week! I hope everyone is reading each and every night - I know I am, because I'm practicing to compete in Battle of the Books on May 17th. Remember - Reading makes you smarter!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!
PTA News You Can Use
Photos Needed for 5th Grade Slide Show! April 30th DEADLINE!
5th Grade Fun Day (May 24th)
PTA is busy planning an awesome last day of school for the amazing 5th graders. They need your help to make it happen.
- DUE TODAY - Submit photos of your kiddo for the slideshow. The slideshow will be displayed during their lunch on the last day. Deadline is next Friday April 28th. It is a quick electronic form (you can do it from your phone) and we would love to have pics of each student. GOOGLE FORM TO SUBMIT PHOTOS BY APRIL 28th
- Last Day Activities. Starting at 9:30 with the graduation walk, there is a great day planned. Games from 10-12. Fun lunch 12-1:30. Then the world's biggest water balloon fight. To pull it off we need parents to help by sending in items and/or volunteer their time. We are looking for tailgate-type games to borrow + bunch-of-balloons donation.
Thank you so much! Reach out to nancykriggle@gmail.com with any questions.
CHECK OUT REMINDER
This is a friendly reminder that our last check out time is 2:45 PM daily. If you arrive after 2:45, your child will have to go home his/her normal way. Thank you in advance for your support.
ATTENTION ALL PARENTS: AN END OF THE YEAR MESSAGE FROM THE CAFETERIA
As we approach the end of the school year, we wanted to remind you that per our charge policy, students will not be able to charge their meals after April 30th. If a student does not have sufficient funds on their account after April 30th, they will receive an alternate meal until sufficient funds are applied to their account. In order to avoid this situation, we strongly encourage you to ensure that your child has enough funds on their account through the last day of school, which is May 24.
If your student receives free meal benefits, those will continue through the end of the school year.
Additionally, if your child has a negative balance we kindly ask that all negative balances are paid no later than May 22.
If you have any questions please contact Doris Brewer, cafeteria manager.

Media Center Games
Battle of the Books is coming to Head Elementary on May 17th, and you can help your students sign up below on the Google Form.
This fun game show is for students in 1st-5th grades.
Blue Bookmarks (Beginning Books Typically 1st & 2nd Grades)
Green Bookmarks (Medium Books Typically 3rd & 4th Grades)
Red Bookmarks (Advanced Books typically 4th & 5th Grades)
Students reading above their grade level can choose a higher level. After reading, students should take the AR test on the book. This competition is open to all students who have read most of the books on the list.
Note: We have added 3 new books to the red group because we have 4th & 5th graders who have already read all the books! These will be bonus questions. The books are on the new bookmark below.
The competition will be May 17th during school. Students will complete the answers on their Chromebooks. We will check the leader board often during the competition to add excitement.
The main goal of Battle of the Books is to encourage children to read independently before the end of the year testing...because reading makes you smarter!
