Principal's Report
Oakview continues to be a true Habitat for Learning and we were excited to see more evidence of that in the past week. Two of our staff members were recognized as top tier teachers and our school as a whole received positive results in the state rankings. As we head into our Positive Connections week, I am reminded of the dedication our community--students, staff, faculty, and parents-- has in making Oakview Elementary a successful environment for all!
Oakview ranks in the top 2% in South Carolina
Congratulations to our student and staff members on their continuing academic efforts! Based on the spring 2018 SCREADY (reading, writing and math) test scores, Oakview ranked 11th highest in South Carolina in reading/writing and 15th highest in math. In a competitive field of amazing elementary schools, we continue to 'stack up'. There are 663 elementary schools in the state of South Carolina so these rankings are certainly significant. Congratulations Oakview! Keep up the great work!
Liz Teeple named GCSD Overall Math Teacher of the Year
Fourth grade teacher Ms. Teeple designs guided math stations in her classroom in order to meet the needs of all students. Both engaging and instructional, these stations motivate students to do their very best! Ms. Teeple's love for math AND her students shows in all that she does in room 402. Congratulations Ms. Teeple!
Charnley Demeritt named Top 10 Finalist for GCSD Teacher of the Year
Selected first by her Oakview peers as our Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Demeritt was visited by Superintendent Burke Royster this week and named as a finalist for GCSD Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Demeritt's efforts to encourage our students in all things STEM shows in her classroom, our gardens, and the recycling program. She goes above and beyond to ensure that Oakview students get the best STEM lab experience! We look forward to celebrating Mrs. Demeritt at the Teacher of the Year breakfast this August. Join us in congratulating Mrs. Demerrit, Top 10 GCSD Teacher of the Year!

Positive Connections Week is April 8-12!
Oakview students and staff are excited to make Positive Connections this week during planned activities at school! Each day will bring a new way to interact with others in the building that you might not normally get a chance to know. Our school counselors and student council members have been on the ONN news channel explaining to our students the expectations for this week. Mrs. Rabren and Mrs. Taylor have provided teachers with the materials needed for each day so all you have to do at home is plan for the two dress-up days and send a small blanket or towel on Friday!
On Friday, our students and staff will enjoy a picnic lunch! The cafeteria staff will provide bag lunches for those who wish to purchase, or students are welcome to bring their own lunch from home. The GCSD food truck will also be on site to provide a sweet treat for all students. Our picnic will be for students and staff members only.
We are so excited to continue making Positive Connections this week!
