Northwood Elementary Connection

February Edition 2023

Hello Northwood families-

I hope that the New Year has started off well for all of you. We have been busy providing students with high quality instruction, enrichment and intervention. We recently completed Winter Benchmarking for STAR and MAP assessments. Some of our third graders completed the IOWA Reading test, the alternative test given to third graders, who need to meet the requirements for the Third Grade Guarantee.

Our focus at Northwood Elementary remains to cultivate a positive school climate and create the best possible learning environment possible for our students. We encourage our students to be respectful, be responsible and be ready to learn each and every day at Northwood Elementary. The partnership between school and home is a necessary component for student success. Students need to feel safe and supported both at school and home. Please continue to talk to your child about being respectful, being responsible and being ready to learn while they are at school.

We held our Quarter two awards assembly on January 25th. Please check the Northwood Elementary Facebook page for pictures.

The Positive Behavior dance party was held on January 13th. The majority of our students were in attendance because they met the requirements of “no more than three office referrals and no suspensions for the quarter".

There was an after school movie fundraiser on January 26th. There were 121 students in attendance to watch the movie Encanto. Students had a blast!

Fourth Graders participated in the CAVS Takeover program on January 30th. There will be video footage available soon of the program, highlighting CAVS staff working with fourth graders on their basketball skills.

The winning classrooms for the monthly ice cream incentive for the month of January, with a focus on good manners:

Kindergarten- Uhl

Grades 1 & 2- Morgenstern

Grades 3 & 4 – Schulte

The focus for February is "helpfulness".

Valentine’s Day classroom parties will take place on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Students may bring in pre-packaged treats and Valentine’s Day cards for the class. Please contact your child’s teacher for more details about classroom parties. February 14th is an AMPS Day.
