Country of origin- Waynesboro, Virginia, USA
Date of fiber inception- 1950s, made commercially in the US in 1959
Synthetic fiber
Description- elastic fiber, excellent stretch ability and recovery
Uses- elastics, underwear, swimwear, sport wear
Can be knit or woven fiber
Advantages- light weight, resistant to body oils, easily dyed, stretchy
Disadvantages- damaged by heat and chlorine, very tight and shows everything
Fiber Care- chlorine damages fiber and heat wash or dry can discolor fiber or lose some
stretch
Fun Fact- In Sweden its state law that you can't buy spandex if you weigh 30 stones (420 pounds)
