Principal Remarks
December is here already - we cannot believe it! hope everyone enjoyed their time off for the Thanksgiving holiday. The time off allows us to slow down, relax and catch our breath before the busy December month ahead of us. I hope your families did not have to venture out in the cold too much.
This will be an exciting month at Glacier Peak. I want to mention a few events that will be taking place in the coming days and weeks. First, on THIS upcoming Saturday, December 7th, our Glacier Peak Partnership (GPE PTO) will be hosting our annual Santa's Winter Wonderland from 9 a.m. - 12 pm. Come join us for breakfast, crafts, pictures with Santa, and lots of shopping! It is a kid-friendly event where kids can come decorate holiday crafts and enjoy some hot cocoa! There will be vendors selling a wide range of crafts and gifts in addition to the Penguin Patch Kids Holiday Shop where students can experience the joy of giving. All gifts at the Penguin Patch are very inexpensive with kid-friendly pricing from .25 cents to $12 dollars. Bring a few extra dollars for the breakfast burritos and all coffee, donuts, hot cocoa and crafts are complementary.
In order to run this super exciting event, we are in need of volunteers to help run the event. Even if you can only spare 30 minutes please sign up on the link posted here:

Next week on December 12th, our fabulous Primary Grizzly Choir will be having their first choir concert Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., and finally at 7:00 p.m. here at Glacier Peak. If you are a choir parent, you know how much time and effort are put into all of their practices. We are ALWAYS excited to show their angelic voices off to the community. Please come out a see our fine students put on a concert about celebrations around the world.
Our Holiday Giving Tree is up and looking beautiful at the front entrance of the school. This has become a tradition of our school, as we carry it forward to support the Adams County Santa Claus Shop. We are also beginning talks on how we can use some of the donations to support our very own Glacier Peak families during the holiday season. If your family would like to support the cause, please bring by donations of toys, games, books, and puzzles and return it back to GPE by December 19th. Over the years, Adams County Santa Claus Shop families have been beyond appreciative and grateful for the kindness and generosity of our community.
With the time of year and cold weather, we know there are lots of appointments, special events, and other activities that may interfere with the school day. Please remember that any day school is in session, is a required attendance day, including the day before or after an extended break. Attendance is vital to your child achieving and learning. We do understand that there are appointments and other events that cannot be scheduled outside the school day, but we ask that you make your best attempt.
Lastly, on behalf of the entire staff of Glacier Peak Elementary, I wish your family a safe, enjoyable, and restful Winter Break. For those that celebrate the various Winter Holidays, we hope that they are joyful and allow you opportunities to celebrate with your family and other loved ones!
Thanks so much for your continuous support and for a tremendous 2019-2020 school year! If you have any comments, questions, feedback or compliments, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email at tim.griffin@adams12.org.
Have a great conclusion to your week. We hope to see a lot of people on Saturday and next Thursday.
Sincerely,
Tim Griffin

Last year, Adams 12 Five Star Schools received more than 4,500 Choice applications for the 2019-2020 school year. In accordance with the state’s open enrollment law, the district’s Choice program allows for students to apply to attend schools outside of their attendance area boundary.
Both in-district and out-of-district students can apply for Choice. Out-of-district Choice requests are considered after in-district requests. Acceptance to a Choice school is based on several criteria: availability of space, sufficient teaching staff, appropriate programs and the necessary facilities for special needs students.
Adams 12 Five Star Schools will publicize the schools open to Choice for the 2020-21 school year on December 1, 2019. The Choice application and list of open schools are available online at www.adams12.org/choice. For families without computer access, a computer kiosk is available at all schools and at the Educational Support Center located at 1500 E. 128th Avenue in Thornton.

Phone Calls/Reminders to Students
Attendance
We appreciate your support in helping to establish positive attendance patterns. If a student must be out due to illness or emergency, please call the attendance line (720-972-5995) before 8:00am to report absences. Please do not tell the teacher only, it is important the attendance line is used for all absences.
Flu Season Safety
This time of year it’s important to remind every Grizzly to regularly wash their hands to avoid passing germs around. We even have hand sanitizer in every classroom and outside the cafeteria for students to use! Check out these tips for avoiding influenza germs at school.
Traffic Safety
It is imperative everyone plays a role to ensure the safety of all of our students. While the
morning and afternoon are busy times, we still are asking for your help and patience.
- Please do NOT beckon students across the street. We have crosswalks and it only takes a few more seconds to cross the street in a safe manner.
- Do NOT make U-Turns on Jasmine Way. This is incredibly risky for other drivers and pedestrians alike.
- Please PULL ALL THE WAY FORWARD in the Hug and Go zone. This ensures there is not a back up on Jasmine Way. As cars get backed up on the main street, it elevates the confusion for the right of way for drivers.
- To maintain a safe line of sight, please do not park within 20 feet of crosswalks.
