Hello Parents!

Please read the sections below to see what's going on in the life of our class!

Working with Words

The students will be focusing on “us” (such as bus), “ue” (such as sue) and “ure” (such as pure) sounds this week. There will be a spelling test on Friday. These words will be on the test: important, means, thought, mother, special.


Students will begin reading a nonfiction text this week. While reading Theodore Roosevelt: The Adventurous President, the students will focus on the skill of text features and asking/answering questions to understand the text.


The stars will focus on subtraction strategies this week. They will use math drawings and algorithms to help them subtract. They will also be using technology this week to help them practice subtraction.


The students will begin information writing this week. While learning this new style of writing, they will focus on identifying main purpose and analyzing text features.


· Spring Valley will be celebrating Kansas Day on Thursday, January 28. We will be participating in many activities throughout the morning.

· Reading logs and Drops in the Bucket sheets (Math) are due Friday!

· Please help your student in one of the following ways this week: practice math fact fluency, have them read aloud to you, ask them how they are going to use “Flexibility” this week. I appreciate your support!
