From Mrs. Barry:
Believe it our not, though we still have over a month of school left, we are already planning for next year! We are working on our staffing and beginning to build classes, yet there is still much work to be done before students begin on August 16th. There are a few things that we need from YOU to prepare for the new year.
1. Online registration for 2021-2022 is OPEN. Please go ahead and register your children NOW. As with the survey you filled out for us last month, this helps us plan for appropriate staffing, etc. Registration information is included in an article below. Please share this with your neighbors, too!
2. As in past years, we will be offering parents the opportunity to give input regarding specific needs of your child through the "Parent Input for Class Placement" form. The form is included below. Please remember we ask that you DO NOT request a specific teacher. Rather, we ask that you answer the questions regarding characteristics and special circumstances. This form is not required - only fill it out if you wish.
As we continue through the rest of this semester, I will most likely have a few more items for you to complete as we get ready for 2021-2022. I appreciate all you do to help as we move forward!
Together, we are Growing Great Minds at MWE!
2021-2022 Registration
Registration is now OPEN for the 2021-2022 school year! This is for both returning and incoming students! Click on the link below for details and the process. We would appreciate you completing this as soon as possible, as well sharing with your neighbors who are not currently enrolled but are coming to Meadow Wood next year, as this helps us with our staffing projections.

Stratford Big Day: Tennis
Stratford does a big community service day once a year where kids all divide into groups and do different things around the community. Our tennis kids and captains have decided to hold a free kids tennis camp for grades K-5 for the event! The event is next Saturday, please see details below.
Free Kids Tennis Clinic at Stratford hosted by the Stratford Tennis Team
Saturday, April 24th
9-11 AM
Grades K-5
Limited to 50 students!
Register here:
https://forms.gle/2NQfb2RawvZQ4hv19
No experience necessary! Bring a mask, a racket (if you have one), and your own water. Check in at the courts by the water tower in the south parking lot.
A Few Reminders:
Our doors open at 7:30 a.m. Students should not arrive any earlier, as they are unsupervised! Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 7:30 to 7:50. At 7:50, students are asked to head to their classrooms to begin their instructional day!
Please remember to send your student to school with a water bottle every day. Especially as the weather grows warmer, our Eagles need to stay hydrated. At this time, water fountains can only be used to refill bottles. In addition, we have 2 refillable water stations in the building, providing filtered water for our students.
Class Sweet Potatoes
We wanted to find a way to keep the garden weed-free over the summer. We learned that if we plant sweet potatoes in May, they will take over the garden and block out the weeds. We can harvest them in August and have a sweet potato lab.
To accomplish this, every classroom was provided with a jar, sweet potato and toothpicks. They will grow in classrooms, and we can plant the vines the last few weeks of May.
To make it even more fun, classes are naming their potato and creating character stories surrounding them. To check out our potatoes, please follow https://www.instagram.com/sweetpotmwe/.
Donations Needed
Thank you!
Counselors’ Connection
Did you know that last school year Meadow Wood earned the distinction as a No Place for Hate® School for the seventh consecutive year? The No Place for Hate® initiative helps to create and sustain inclusive school environments where all students have the opportunity to succeed by promoting respect for individual difference. Throughout the year, we focus on intentional, sustained practices that promote respect, empathy, and kindness. A required activity is that students and staff have the opportunity to discuss and sign the Resolution of Respect. In the fall, Ms. Luberger and Ms. Waldrop, our counselors, conducted classroom guidance lessons in all homerooms explaining the initiative and offering students and teachers the opportunity to sign the Resolution.
An additional requirement is that parents and families also have the opportunity to sign the
Resolution of Respect. Please use the link to sign the pledge using Google forms. Be sure to hit Submit at the bottom. https://forms.gle/EKfnHTGaZdLjn9rK6
We are proud of the concerted efforts of our staff, students, and parents in promoting a safe and caring learning environment, and look forward to your support in gaining this recognition.
For more information please contact Pat Waldrop or Lynne Luberger, Professional School Counselors
Credit by Exam Testing Windows
This is a reminder that the summer Credit by Exam testing windows are June 7-10 and July 12-15. The deadline for both opportunities is May 3. Please let your child’s counselor know before the deadline if you would like for them to be registered for testing. Be sure to include the testing window you prefer.

Hello MWE family!
We will be having a Spirit Wear presale on Wednesday, April 21st before and after school. You will be able to see sample sizes of our products and order your spirit wear for next year.
Note: we will once again be selling Spirit Wear as presale only, so spread the word!
Please see the images below of what it looks like—Spirit Wear chair Amanda Candler did an amazing job designing it!
Don’t forget to sign up for our May meeting, which will be an In and Out Brunch at Urban Kitchen! It will be on Wednesday, May 19th at 11 am, and you can logon to MTK to RSVP and pay $10 for your meal.
All are invited to attend, regardless of whether or not you plan on eating—this is our last meeting of the year, and we will swear In our new board, so come join us!
We still do have some smaller volunteer positions open, so please reach out if you are interested in helping next year!
As always, thanks for your support for PTA and MWE!
Take Care,
Catie Winegar

A Message From the Superintendent
Dear Spring Branch ISD Families,
We’re on the home stretch! As all of us look forward to a terrific last month of school, we are already looking ahead with excitement and optimism to next school year at Spring Branch ISD. Great plans are underway!
Here is some important information about the 2021-22 school year:
- We are expecting no mask mandate to be in place for our schools next fall. Read our News Release here.
- Elementary students will have 100 percent in-person learning. Distance learning will not be offered for elementary students.
- SBISD is awaiting guidance from the 87th Legislature and the Texas Education Agency regarding possible virtual learning options for next year. We are exploring the possibility of adding a standalone virtual school of choice option for grades 6-12.
- There will be no simultaneous instruction for in-person and distance learners. Should we offer a virtual school option, teachers would be hired and dedicated to online instructional delivery.
- We have reinstated elementary early release days for parent-teacher conferences each semester. We also have added four elementary early release days for teachers to participate in important literacy-focused professional development.
- The middle and high school calendars return to a normal SBISD calendar with early release days for final exams in December and May.

Great plans also are underway for SBISD Summer School Programs.
We know this summer will be more important than ever to help bridge the learning gaps many of our students experienced over the last year.
We appreciate and applaud our Board of Trustees for acknowledging the critical nature of this summer’s programming by approving pay increases for teachers, nurses, and several other summer school positions. Across the country, educators are concerned about any learning loss by students that has happened during the pandemic. Our summer school programs can help reverse that learning loss.

New student and returning student online enrollment is now open
Online registration for new student enrollment for the 2021-22 school year is open. We are expecting to have a great, healthy school year and we are urging families new to the district or families with incoming pre-K students to start registering their children.
Online registration is also open for returning students for the 2021-22 school to update and verify information.
Spring Branch ISD offers full-day programs for four-year old’s and half-day classes for three-year old’s. Some families may qualify to attend for free if they meet certain Texas Education Agency criteria such as limited English proficiency or are economically disadvantaged, homeless, part of a military family or in foster care.
To learn more and to update and verify your student’s information for next year, visit our enrollment website here.
Celebrating our Class of 2021 graduates
We are so proud of our Seniors! We look forward to proudly celebrating all they have accomplished in their years with us, and we share their excitement about the next steps in their T-2-4 journeys. We especially celebrate these students who have modeled perseverance, resilience and determination with Hurricane Harvey hitting their first week of high school, and their junior and senior years impacted by a global pandemic. Congratulations, Class of 2021!
