There is this one section that children are afraid to approach. Rumor has it, the dust on the books is really the soul of students who dared enter section 921 and *poof* disappeared.

I feel the need ... the need to weed!
After careful evaluation, I identified 58 titles to be weeded from the collection. I noted the reason for weeding in the accompanying list. Many of the titles met multiple criteria for weeding. I then had to consult our district policy on what should be done with these titles.

Older than 20 years!
Never Circulated?!?!?
Last circulation - 1982!
Now what?
Following county policy, some weeded books will become recycled ornaments.

This assignment has allowed me to develop a plan for controlling my collection. I will not leave weeding to a “once-a-year-in-the-dark-of-the-night” event. I will devote a portion of each month to address a different section to weed using the criteria I incorporated here. I will also update our policy that says weeding will be an annual project in conjunction with the end-of-year inventory to include a subtopic outlining a focused monthly weeding event. This will keep my collection current and relevant.
