FMS BLAST
May 2, 2022
Dear Parents:
Welcome to our final month of the school year. What a crazy and wild ride we have all been on over the past two years. Thanks to resiliency, dedication, and working together we have been able to push through the difficulties, remain focused on what we treasure, and recognize the importance of supporting our children and one another. I am proud of how our students have progressed this year, despite the many obstacles that have presented and how they have shown that, with perseverance, they continue to thrive.
I have learned so much from them this school year. I am grateful for our community and for all our families who I am honored to provide service to. Thank you for the opportunity and for allowing me the ability to lead in your child’s educational journey. You have entrusted all of us at FMS with your most treasured possession: your child. I know I have not taken this responsibility lightly. May this last month of our school year be positive for all of us.
This week we continue with our state testing. This Tuesday and Thursday we will have the math assessments. As we asked last week, we request you make sure your child is present and on time on these days. Please make sure they bring their school chrome book fully charged. It must be a school issued chrome book so they can access the secure browser for the test. They should also bring their charger so they are prepared if their chrome book battery should run low. Please follow the same guidelines as was shared last week. Thank you for helping to make the testing run smoothly and for helping your student to be set so they can do the best they can when taking the assessment.
Have a great week. Enjoy the sunshine.
Kindly,
Dr. Daniels
GUESS WHAT WEEK IT IS?
May 2-6, 2022. This week we recognize our teachers/staff and say ‘thank you’ for all they do to make FMS such a great place to be.
Guess Who Is Coming to FMS?
On Wednesday, May 4th, Mister Brown will be on the FMS campus to share his message of making good choices in person with the FMS students. We welcome, Mister Brown, as he spreads positive character development with our Jaguars. As he says, “Choices are the puzzle pieces of life. So, Choose Well…….Oh Yeah!”
8th Grade Awards Night
On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, we will honor our 8th grade promotees at the Awards Night. Parents, please join us with your student at 6:00 p.m. in the FMS Multipurpose Room. We look forward to honoring the award recipients that evening.
8th Grade Promotion
Friday, May 27th, 2022. The promotion will begin at 9:00 a.m. on the track field.
We recommend students dress nicely for the event, however the event itself will be casual as it is located on the field. Parents and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets to set up in the designated area on the field staying clear of the area for the promotees.
PTO will be decorating the area and make it clear where guests can set up for viewing. More information for the students to follow for that morning will be forthcoming.
Practice for the celebration will be held during the school day on Thursday, May 26th, which is the last official day of the school year. It will be important for them to attend that day so they know the expectations.
There are no tickets for the event. We realize it will be crowded but we want to allow families to invite who they choose, realizing it will be crowded on the field.
Stay tuned in the next weeks for instructions for the morning of May 27th to make the event special and respectful for all participants. We appreciate your cooperation.
At FMS our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is quite active and a great support to the students and staff in helping to create a culture of community on the campus.
Positions for the 2022-23 school year PTO board are open and available. The President serves a 2-year term, and we are in need of a parent to fill this role. The PTO President will work with Principal Daniels and if you might be interested in serving in this position, Principal Daniels and the other members are eager and willing to support you in this role. The 2022-23 school year will be so special as we work to move forward with fun activities to afford our students the ability to connect with each other as we move into a post-pandemic world. Please consider this important position.
The next PTO meeting is scheduled for May 16th at 6:30 p.m. If you have questions, you can contact Dr. Daniels at tdaniels@fcusd.org or reach out to any of the current PTO board members. We hope you will join our team.
CALIFORNIA JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION (CJSF) NEWS
Congratulations to Folsom Middle School CJSF candidates! After a full year of service while maintaining high academic standards, these students have earned the stasis as CJSF members. Our CJSF students have run a very successful Toy Drive, volunteered weekly services to our library, as well as participated in other community service activities held on our campus throughout the year.
To honor their achievement, FMS will be holding an induction ceremony on May 3rd for our CJSF students and their parents/guardians. This ceremony will officially certify these students as active members of the California Junior Scholarship Federation! Once again, congratulations to our hardworking CJSF students! We are so proud of you and cannot wait to celebrate your success!

There will be carnival style games, prizes and a light lunch to be provided.
Congratulations to our 8th grader, Solon Chan for his remarkable achievement in a writing contest.
Solon's essay titled “Environment, Engineering, and Ingenuity” has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Writing Contest by National Academy of Engineering. Each year National Academy of Engineering asks students to write about a different engineering-related topic and receives hundreds of submissions from students around the world, so Solon's selection as finalist is truly incredible.
Way to go, Solon! FMS is so proud of you!
