Kirk Fenton News
12th July 2019
Dear Parents / Carers,
This week has been a quieter week as we start to wind down towards the holidays but there has still been lots of work going on in classrooms and outside. Years Five and Six started the week with a trip to the Rose Theatre in York to watch 'The Tempest'. They not only learnt the story for that play but also about Shakespeare and some of his other works.
Today I am collating the order for the new reading scheme that will be purchased by the Friends of Kirk Fenton and should be in school for September. I am thrilled that we are in a position to do this and would again like to thank everyone involved with the Friends who have made this possible. One of the priorities for our school next year will be to develop reading for pleasure and therefore we will be starting the year with two weeks dedicated to Roald Dahl. It would be brilliant if you are able to read some of his stories with or to your child over the summer and each class will be focusing on a text as follows:
Acorns: George's Marvellous Medicine
Birch: The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me
Willow: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Hazel: Fantastic Mr Fox
Cherry: The BFG
Maple: James and The Giant Peach
Sycamore: The Witches
Oak: Going Solo
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Karen Williams

What a year!
We’ve had a whirlwind year. £14,736 raised. Many fun events organised and some great resources and experiences provided for the children. Once again thank you to everyone who has been involved, we couldn’t have done it without you. As a committee we are always blown away by the generous offers we get of donations and time.
Enjoy your summer and we look forward to seeing you all again next year. In fact, we’re already planning an informal drop-in evening (venue tbc) with nibbles for anyone who wants to find out more about what we do – save the date: Thursday 26th Sept
For any updates over the summer, please follow us on Facebook.
