A Message from the Superintendent
Happy New Year! I hope the break from school these past two weeks has been peaceful and that the time was spent connecting with family and friends. Schools reopen this coming Wednesday, January 3.
When you return, you will notice construction projects underway at some of our schools as our Measure J facilities bond plans are making their way through the Division of the State Architect to our schools. The Division of the State Architect, known as DSA, approves all public school construction plans to ensure the project’s compliance with code requirements related to structural safety; fire and life safety; accessibility; and, sustainability. A project may not begin until the DSA approves it.
Our Measure J priority is safety and security, which includes perimeter fencing projects, video surveillance, threat and hazard readiness, equipment and space upgrades including playgrounds and fields, and emergency preparedness. More and more projects will begin as more plans are approved. We are in the first phase of Measure J, approximately one-third, or about $80M of the total $248M bond, will be spent during this phase.
THE INTRA-DISTRICT TRANSFER WINDOW OPENS JANUARY 3
The INTRA-District Transfer Window for 2024-2025 for Grades 6-12 will be 1/3/2024-1/19/2024
The INTRA-District Transfer Window for 2024-2025 for Grades TK-5 will be 1/22/2024-2/9/2024
Intra-district transfer are for families that choose to attend a school other than their school of residence based on the boundaries that are established by the Board of Education. Boundaries are established based on neighborhoods and adjusted routinely as enrollment increases or decreases due to economic or societal factors or other reasons, including intra-district transfers. We are in the process are studying our current boundaries to balance capacity utilization among our schools. In other words, when schools are either too full or too empty, the Board of Education may adjust one or more boundaries to balance enrollment, depending on the circumstances.
Visit our web site here for more details and process information. Or call (951) 509-6244.

Alvord provides an extension of the school day and school year through its Expanded Learning Program. The focus is on academic, artistic, social, emotional, and physical development for students in elementary and middle school, including middle school sports. The program does not replicate learning activities that take place during the regular school day. Instead, it builds upon them. The program is offered everyday after school, as well as intercession, including summer and extended breaks for holidays. Learn more about it here. Or call (951) 358-1682, Monday - Friday, 9:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Participate in our Middle School Sports Program
Did you know we offer a full year of middle school sports? We kick off the program with Track and Field just a few days after the school year begins. Specific information regarding clinic and team tryouts will be distributed by each individual middle school site. The link to register to participate in any our middle school sports programs will be sent via Parent Square next week once our registration website goes live. All interested students will need to register and students trying out for any of our competitive teams will need to provide a sports clearance physical form completed by a medical doctor prior to their tryout. Forms can be obtained in the main office of any of our middle schools. Soccer follows the Track & Field season. Other sports include volleyball, flag-football, basketball and pep squad. Make sure your child is registered to participate. The website link is coming soon!
Activate you Parent Square Two-Way Communication
Parent Square is a safe and secure platform for school-to-home and home-to-school communication. All of our schools rely on it to keep parents informed. Instead of a one-way communication tool, Parent Square provides two-way communication. But to fully utilize the two-way feature of Parent Square, you have to activate your account. Sign in here and activate the two-way tool.
