Pie Sale Pick Up
A huge THANK YOU to students and parents who helped make this year's pie sale fundraiser a success! 473 pies were sold! The most popular one being the Chocolate Cream Pie!
PIE PICKUP NIGHT is Tuesday, November 15, from 5:00-6:30pm at the BJHS covered sidewalk. Everyone who sold pies must pick up their orders at this time. Helpful hint: bring a cooler to keep the pies frozen while you deliver them to your customers.
We need many volunteers to make Pie Pickup Night run smoothly and efficiently. We also need volunteers to make reminder calls the day before pickup. FMI and to sign up (thank you!), follow the link below.
If you’d still like to donate to the Student Activities Fund, it’s not too late. Checks payable to Brunswick Junior High School with "pie fundraiser" in the memo line are still welcome in the main office.
On Friday Nov. 4, BJHS hosted two graduate students from MECAD (Maine College of Art and Design). The graduate students, Miia and Jenn, are studying to be art teachers and they came in to present a lesson to some 7th and 8th graders. Miia and Jenn showed examples of art as communication. They had the students do some brainstorm writing, using sensory descriptions such as taste, touch and smell. The 7th and 8th grade students were then able to use a variety of art materials provided by Miia and Jenn to create their own unique piece of art based on the lesson.
Student Council is partnering with Mid-Coast Hunger Prevention Program to help feed our community. From November 14-22 you can bring in nonperishable food items and drop them off in your class box located in the cafeteria on the stage. Boxes will be labeled 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. MCHPP will process our donation and help support our local Coffin Food Pantry. We will count donations and the class with the most donations will get a special treat during lunch after November break! Some product suggestions include: cereal, canned goods, ramen, mac n cheese, applesauce, spaghetti, pasta sauce, and granola bars. Let’s work together to help our community!

Classroom Highlight - Community Outreach
Our community outreach class with Mrs. Robbins is in full swing with students' projects! Read below for a summary of all of the amazing things our student are doing:
One group is having a bake sale downtown on the green on November 18th from 3:30-5:00. All of the proceeds will go towards funding new sports equipment.
Another group is building a birdhouse made of Legos in the garden of Eatin. We had to ask for donations for materials.
A third group is focusing on providing more seating near Maine street. They are going to build a picnic table by the Town Hall. We reached out to the Town Hall and they gave us the specific directions to build one. We also wrote a letter to Hancock Lumber and they will be donating the materials. We are also working with Mr. McNamara’s class to build the table.
A fourth group is doing is donation jars for the Humane Society. We wrote letters to several businesses and made follow up phone calls to see if we could bring over donation jars. We labeled and decorated each jar.
Another group has raised money for the Midcoast Humane Society by having a car wash at Advance Auto Parts on November 4th 2022. The carwash went from 1pm - 4pm. The carwash was donation only and they raised $145.
A sixth group will be holding a bottle drive November 9th-18th. The bottle drive is being held to raise money for Coins for K9s. The money would go to med kits, bite suits, and lots more to better enable K9s across the state to do their jobs. We will also be had a K9 demonstration for our 8th grade class with Officer Kerry and Desi. We wrote letters and had a Zoom meeting with the people from Coins for K9s.
A student also created a poster about how music can be a therapy for people and help them be happier. The student wrote letters to get information, and asked for materials to make the poster, and it will hang in the 8th grade hallway.
