"Captivating Every Student, Every Day!"

Staff Survey and Student Climate Survey Reminder

Next year the entire division will be focusing on Compass to 2020 Goal #3 regarding Social Emotional Development, which reads, "All students will benefit from an educational experience that fosters their social-emotional development." The strategies we are focusing on are:
  • "providing a safe and welcoming learning environment"
  • "embedding social-emotional learning strategies into the K-12 curriculum"

Therefore, the Leadership Team would like to collect some data to drive our programming and professional learning needs in relation to Compass to 2020 Goal #3 about Social Emotional Learning. We know how very busy you are, but if you could allow your students (grades 2-5 only) to take a School Climate Survey by next Monday afternoon we would greatly appreciate it!

Brooke Martinette has kindly put the link on the students' Symballoo. It should take no more that 10 minutes, and you can have them rotate at the computers in groups. (See student Symaballoo for a link to the survey.)

We would also like your input on what you think Trantwood's needs are to become stronger socially and emotionally and how best we can meet them. Please answer this survey below by end of day Monday also. Your answers will remain anonymous. Thank you!

Thank you for all you do! Please see Mrs. Lee if you have any questions.

Kudos - singing the praises of our staff :)

Congratulations to Kathy Dungan for receiving a grant for $4500 from the Education Foundation. Fourth graders will be learning more about oysters next year! I love months that begin with R. :)

Thank you everyone for your continued help and support with SOL testing. It has been a smooth ride so far!

Streaming Graduations and VBgradwall

VBCPS will again provide live streaming video of graduation ceremonies, June 14 - 18, 2016, on their new graduation webpage www.vbschools.com/vbcpsgrad. This outreach, originally designed to enable military service members to view graduations ceremonies while deployed, is enjoyed today by a much larger audience such as relatives unable to travel to VB.

Another opportunity for family, friends and classmates to celebrate members of the Class of 2016 is to post an online message on VBGradWall. The gradwalls and online form to submit a congratulatory message are available at www.vbschools.com/gradwall.

Thank you for publicizing these opportunities for families and friends to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2016.

June 20, 2016, Flex Work Day

All teachers and teacher assistants may work a flex schedule for the staff day on June 20, 2016. You may begin working the extra time on May 31, 2016. Log your extra time on your WISE timesheet. The time sheets will provide documentation to support the hours reported in WISE.

Teacher assistants, ISS coordinators, and library assistants may not work more than 40 hours in any one week.

The flex day applies only to the following group of employees:

  • All teachers whose schedule ends on June 20
  • Teacher assistants, ISS coordinators, and library media assistants
  • Security assistants are not eligible because of security needs of the building.

Eligible employees who do not choose to make use of the flex day and do not wish to report on June 20, 2016, may choose to take personal reasons leave with approval of the building principal.
