WRJH Raider News

March 2015

Spring is just around the corner! Spring athletic practices have begun and that always signals that the sprint to the end of this school year is here.

I want to thank all of our teachers, students and families who gave it their all in tackling the new next generation assessments. Our students remained flexible with the testing schedule and deftly navigated all of the new features on the online assessments.

There are lots of activities going on at WRJH in March. I hope to see you involved in them!

All the best,
Chris Brooks

GSVA Teen Journey: Art of the Self Portrait

Waggoner Road Junior High is excited to continue our partnership with Granville Studio for the Visual Arts by offering the Teen Journey program to students as an after-school programming option. The Art of the Self-Portrait will be again offered starting Wednesday, March 18 from 4pm - 6pm. The class will meet for 10 weeks and conclude with a Student Art Exhibition on May 27.

The School Journey Program is a three part chronological series composed of GSVA Journey, The Art of the Self-Portrait, GSVA Journey, DreamWorlds and GSVA Journey360°. Each ten-week series is a theme-based approach to building knowledge about and through the arts in a studio environment, with an end event of the students curating their own artists' exhibition. The program meets national and state content standards for the visual arts. In addition, it integrates strands from various other disciplines.

The program costs $159 and will begin on Wednesday, March 18 and run through May 27 (no class on April 8 during Spring Break). On May 27, students will exhibit their work in a Gallery Opening!

Scholarships are available. Please see Mr. Brooks for more information about scholarship opportunities.

More information and registration can be found at GSVA. Students may also bring the payment to the office.
