Happy New Year!! Can you believe that it is January already? We hope you all had a wonderful vacation. We came back ready to learn. We are planning on really pushing our friends from now until the end of the year to be the best learners they can be.

In Math, we finished our unit on measurement.
A peek at our learning this week....
This week our class will be focusing on plants and what they need in order to grow, such as water, food, and air. Children will read stories about gardens.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: require, plant Help your child understand that plants need water, food, air, and sunlight to grow.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Word: my Encourage your child to say sentences using the word my. Record the sentences on paper and leave a blank where the word my should be. Then have your child write the word my in each space.
Category Words: size words Play a game called “Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down.” For example, say a true or false statement. Have your child do a thumbs-up gesture if the statement is true. If it is not true, have your child show a thumbs-down gesture.
Phonics: h Play a rhyming game. Say, What word starts with h and rhymes with pen? (hen) If your child cannot think of the word, provide a clue. Continue the activity with other words.

Have your child think of a favorite story. Then ask questions about the main characters, where the story takes place, and what events happen at the beginning, middle, and end.
In Math, we are working on comparing numbers.

SUPPLIES NEEDED
Many parents are asking what the class needs for supplies. We could use some Clorox Wipes and paper towels. Thank you in advance.
Notes from Mrs. Maillet
First of all, thank you to all the parents sent in books for the book swap, it was an awesome experience for the children. They loved opening up a new book to bring home over vacation. Also, thank you to all of the parents that thought about us during the holidays and sent in gifts, it was very kind of you. We loved EVERYTHING! We hope you all enjoyed the handmade gifts that were sent home for your tree. Our Spaghetti Brunch was a HUGE success! The children loved pretending they were at a fancy restaurant. Thank you to the parents that sent in treats for dessert, they were YUMMY! Please enjoy the video that were taken before vacation!
I will be sending home a list of new sight words that we will be working on now until the end of the year. Please review these nightly.
Book orders will also be sent home on Monday, the orders will be due on January 15th.
Thank you for all that you do!
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
The children seemed all rested and ready to learn. We reviewed our classroom rules and school wide rules. They have settled in to our routine nicely.
Please continue practicing the sight words and reading logs. The math homework is slow but, all students can practice writing the numbers 0-20.
We are working on our last names at this point in the year. If you can practice that as well much appreciated.
Book orders are due January 18th.
I sent home a 2019 calendar. On the back of the calendar is the schedule of spirit week. PLEASE disregard it. A NEW schedule came out Friday. Please follow that one as it is the updated one. Sorry for any in convenience..
Thank you for all your support!
