The Pirateer
Special Edition
A Note from Mrs. Hough
We are excited to announce that all email addresses, provided at our Open House in August, have been added to our Pirateer newsletter subscription! This email serves as a test for our email entry process. Increasing communication with parents is one of the goals established by our School Leadership Team! This team consists of administrators, teachers, and parents.
The Pirateer is published the first week of every month. It has very important dates and information about our school.

Good Evening, Lake Wylie Pirates! This is Mrs. Hough with your Weekly News!
Monday, September 19th is Grandparents Day at Lake Wylie! Grandparents are welcome to eat lunch in the art room or courtyard and to visit the Book Fair! The Book Fair will continue through September 23rd. We still need parent volunteers to assist with the book fair. Please contact Mrs.Gentile, our Media Specialist if you can help.
Students in grades K-5 will begin taking the fall MAP test this week. This assessment is taken on the computer and assists teachers in learning more about your child's reading and math skills. The MAP test connects to Compass Learning, an online program that all students can access. Compass Learning personalizes learning and provides your child practice on what they still need to master.
We have over 100 students who have not provided the school with a copy of your child's physical or immunization records. By NC law, students who don't provide this information are excluded from school on September 28th. Please make this your priority over the next week if this applies to your child.
CMS students will have their first half day of school on October 12th. Students will be dismissed from school at 12:00 and will be sent home using the mode of transportation that they normally use unless otherwise indicated. If you plan to change your child's mode of transportation, please let the teacher know using a note in the agenda and not by calling the office to be sure the message is received. If you need After School Care, Lake Wylie ASEP will offer child care until 6:00 pm on that day. Please contact Ken Porter by September 30th to sign up.
We just completed Attendance Counts Week with an informative Counselor's Coffee on Friday. To be sure that student's absences from school are marked as "excused", a note should be written to indicate that your student was sick or had a doctors appointment. This note should be separate from the agenda as the teachers send the note to Mrs. Hernandez in the office. Excessive absences and tardies from school impact your child's academic performance and may REQUIRE a doctors note to be counted as excused.
Have an awesome week!
Mrs. Hough
