Kindergarten Graduation
How You Can Help...
We are looking for parents of current kindergarten students, former kindergarten students, or community members to help with any of the following items or opportunities. We would like to remind you this is something that is not required nor expected, however we have had many families ask how they can support PVP and our students and we wanted to offer up this opportunity.
- Help set up the gym and classrooms on the day of the graduation
- Donated graduation supplies and decorations
- Food, snacks, cakes, drinks, etc
- Possibly volunteer in the classroom on days leading up to the graduation to help prepare students for the graduation ceremony or work on culminating projects, etc (this is something you would need to check with your child's teacher as some teachers may need this support while others may not)
If you are interested in supporting our kindergarten team in any way, please contact your child's kindergarten teacher or contact Melissa Kennedy who is our Kindergarten team representative via email kennedy.melissa@battlegroundps.org
Social Emotional Development
Our classrooms will continue their 2nd step Social Emotional lessons throughout the month of November.
Monthly Focus (March): Friendship Skills
This month, our schoolwide theme is friendship skills. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we'll be reminding students to invite others to play, play in fair ways, take responsibility for mistakes by making amends, and how to handle name-calling assertively. These skills help students make and keep friends.
Weekly Focus and the Morning Announcement Your Child Will Hear Each Morning During That Week
Week 1 (March 4 - March 8):
At our school it's important to notice and have empathy when other kids are being left out. Inviting other students to play is a caring thing to do. When we invite others to play, we will get to know them. At recess this week, notice of anyone is being left out and be sure to ask that person to join in and play!
Not all grade levels have specific support materials for every lesson but below are some materials for this specific topic...
No support materials this week
Kindness Month
Our focus skill for February has been "Kindness Together."
Classroom teachers received pink and red hearts and had their students write down/draw any acts of kindness they have done at school or at home and then stapled them to the wall by our main office to create a Kindness Tree. Our goal is to have the whole wall covered with kindness hearts from students and staff and we are well on our way!
Here are some videos about kindness...
- Great video for Kindergarten through 2nd Grade
- Great video for 2nd Grade - 4th Grade
- Kindness video that was presnted at our last PBIS Assembly and created by Mrs. Machida's 2nd Grade students and Mrs. Mendez's Kindergarten students!!!!
Kindness on 3.....Together on 6....

Introducing the New PVP Problem Solving Wheel(s)
The PBIS Team has worked hard this year to create the problem solving wheel as a way for all of our students to learn problem solving skills and have a resource to support this skill. The team created a Kindergarten through 2nd Grade version and a 3rd and 4th Grade version while keeping the problem solving wheels consistent so that we now have school wide resource moving forward.
Woooo Hoooo ...Classrooms Filled Their Beaver Bravo Jar!!!
Every time a student is recognized for displaying positive behaviors that meet one of our school wide expectations, they receive a Beaver Bravo. They then put this Bravo into their classroom jar and with every individual positive behavior that is recognized, classroom jars soon fill up. Once full, the class dumps their jar into our school wide jar located in the main office which results in a spirit day celebration as soon as our school jar is full. What happens as a result of all of these collective positive behaviors? They ALL help shape Pleasant Valley Primary into the amazing community that we all have the privilege of being part of every single day!
