Old Adobe Educator Weekly Round-Up
August 16, 2021 - August 20, 2021
MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT LOWERY
Happy First Week!!
Greetings OAUSD Educators!!
Happy First Week of School!
We made it!
I am so incredibly proud of your resilience and our commitment to focus on collaboration and relational trust. James Baldwin once said, "not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." As a community the throws of miscommunication, chaos and fear from COVID and constant social unrest truly tested us. I cannot thank our educators enough for demonstrating resilience, innovation and creativity to connect with students. Your flexibility, hard work, and dedication to our students is inspiring.
Resilience in the face of the unexpected has been a recurring theme and we have acknowledged missteps and need the need to simply begin again. I'm looking forward to many moments of learning and growing. See you soon at your upcoming 'Educator Meet Up' opportunity!
I want to thank our bargaining association partners for keeping the focus on students and staff safety during the Pandemic. Our collaboration during this challenging time will continue to keep us all safe. I am also delighted that our staff will be compensated for the amazing achievement of creating and sustaining a working educational delivery model during the Pandemic. Please look for communications this week related to supplemental pay timelines regarding retroactive compensation and health benefits.
Thank you for all you do and for consistently going above and beyond the call. Have a terrific first week!
Superintendent Lowery

COVID-19 Update
OAUSD COVID 19 Updates and Reminders
OAUSD CAMPUS/WORKSITE SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Please review the most up to date version of the OAUSD Campus/WorkSite Safety Protocols (updated on 8/13/2021).
This document is intended to keep all staff with most recent guidance and its implementation in the workplace at OAUSD to assist in keeping all safe.
SONOMA COUNTY MASK MANDATE
As we prepare for a safe, successful start to the new school year, please read the Order of the Health Officer of Sonoma County. This order requires all individuals to wear face coverings over the mouth and nose when indoors in workplaces and public settings, with limited exemptions, and recommends that businesses make face coverings available to individuals entering the business.
Face coverings are required for all persons on all OAUSD facilities when indoors (regardless of vaccination status) and are optional outdoors.
Consequently, On July 27, 2021, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated guidance for fully vaccinated people given new evidence on the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html). CDC recommends that fully vaccinated persons wear a mask in public indoor settings. On July 28, 2021 CDPH aligned its Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings with the CDC and recommended universal masking in public indoor settings statewide.
The Delta variant has been circulating in Sonoma County since March of 2021, is highly transmissible and requires multi-component prevention strategies to reduce spread.
Exemptions from Face Covering Requirements: Individuals are not required to wear face coverings in the following circumstances:
a. Persons who are working alone in a closed office or room;
b. Persons who are actively eating and/or drinking (please maximize physical distancing as much as possible);
c. Persons swimming or showering in a fitness facility;
d. Persons who are obtaining a medical or cosmetic service involving the head or face for which temporary removal of the face covering is necessary to perform the service;
e. Persons who are specifically exempted from wearing face coverings pursuant to other CDPH guidance.
If you are in need of an exemption from the face covering requirement due to a medical condition, please contact Sonya Wasden in Human Resources.
VACCINE PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER
The August 11, 2021 California public health order requires all schools to verify the vaccine status of all school employees by October 11, 2021. Additionally, the order requires that asymptomatic unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated staff are required to undergo diagnostic screening testing.
Please continue to take precautions to keep yourselves, your loved ones, and the rest of our community safe by erring on the side of caution and continue to follow the 3Ws - Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Watch your distance.
