Edgewood's Tiger Talk

Principal's Update

Greenfield has revamped it's Parent/Student Handbook, which outlines school board policies that are district wide. This year, there are two policies that are different than they've been in the past at Edgewood:

1) While students may have phones/tablets (Personal Communication Devices) at school and on school buses, they must be powered OFF at all times--even on the bus. If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call the school office. If buses will be late, the school will send a text message to parents.

2) Students may only get on and off the bus at their assigned stops. In the past, parents were able to send notes for temporary switches (e.g. for a play date). This is no longer allowed. Having an accurate list of who is on which bus is critical for student safety; and bus company lists cannot be updated or changed quickly or easily. I suggest that if you're arranging for a child's play date, you send a note allowing the other parent to pick up your child from school via car/walking.

Tomorrow, you will receive an email from a no_reply@greenfield.k12.wi.us. It will have a link to the Handbook (which is also on the Greenfield website) and an electonic Verification Sign-off form. All parents and students must review the handbook and fill out the sign-off form. The first class to have all students complete the form will receive a prize!

Thank you, and let me know what questions you might have.

STAR Testing

Students have, or will, take the STAR assessment. This test is a Universal Screener that helps us to identify student strengths and needs. For those of you familiar with MAP, STAR replaces it. This fall will be our baseline assessment, and you can expect to see a report in the spring that will show your child's learning growth over the course of the year.

PE Update from Mr. Warnecke

This month in PE students will be participating in some fun team building activities that will hopefully promote cooperation, communication, strategy, and of course fitness. We will also be going through fun and easy recess activities that any student can do during recess time!!! To finish off the month the students will be participating in some fun fall activities such as Soccer and flag football!!!

Guidance Update from Mrs. Michlig

September serves as a great month to remind students of many of our expectations in how to treat others. In guidance classes we discuss the purpose of our Buddy Benches and what we can do to show others we care by asking students sitting on the bench to play or walk and talk. Another big area of focus we cover in guidance is teaching students what bullying is and how to handle a situation if a child is a target. Students who find themselves in the bystander role learn strategies to activate their empathy and speak up to support others. K5-5th grade classes take place twice a month, while K4 is once monthly. Keep an eye out in your child’s Thursday folder for more details about these guidance topics, which also are an important part of our Pawsitively Edgewood Character Initiative.

Spirit Fridays

Unless the Packers are playing, every Friday is a "Tiger Fever" day. On days with assemblies, students should wear their all-school gray shirts. On other Friday, students are encouraged to wear Edgewood gear or orange and black. We'll be recognizing the class that has the greatest percentage of spirit.
