BASD Coaching Rundown

November/December 2020

Happy Holidays, BASD!

We know these first few months of school have been a challenge for all, and we hope that the upcoming holiday season brings you some joy. We know winter also brings cold weather, so we’d like to bring you some warmth! A Hot Chocolate Bar is coming to a school near you! We'll have a variety of yummy toppings and mixings available. We'll also have some books on display for you to peruse. As we all know, books are the perfect companion to a nice warm drink! For a sneak peek at some of the many books we will have on display, check out our virtual bookshelf... Bitmoji Style! Watch your email- we will let you know your school's date soon! Thanks for all you do -- we appreciate you!

Virtual Learning Playbook

We hope that you had an opportunity to check out Section 3 of the Virtual Learning Playbook. The section featured some of our favorite tech tools and why they’re good for instruction. As always, if you need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here for you and your students!

We’re currently working on Section 4, which will discuss best practices for virtual assessments. Be on the lookout for the rollout in the next week or so.

BASD Reads

Thanks to all faculty and staff members across the district who have reading signs displayed outside of their classroom/office. We love seeing what you’re reading, and the students do too! Remember to update your sign once you’re on to a new book. We’d also like you to consider adding the book you’re currently reading to your email signature. Doing so will help to further spread a love of literacy in our school community.

Speaking of spreading a love of literacy, we have some big news from Bellefonte READS. This year, the committee is trying something new -- they’re asking the community to vote for this year’s “One Book, One Bellefonte” title! Be sure to follow them on social media to stay up to date with the latest information. We can’t wait to find out what the community selects!

Strategy Spotlight

We’ve shared many great instructional strategies over the years on our strategy days, but how do we transition the tried and true strategies that we love to the digital environment? In each newsletter, we will review a previously shared strategy and share ideas for how to use it in the time of COVID-19.

Six Word Memoirs

We know that the few weeks before the holidays are crazy. Add in COVID, and we’re all pretty much operating in triage mode! So, we picked one of our favorite (and most simple) strategies to share with you. The Six-Word memoir strategy requires students to encapsulate their understanding of a concept or experience using only six words. It doesn't take much to transition this strategy to a virtual environment. Check out the links below for more information:
