In their words: "What would you say or how would you describe our first five-day week?"

Curriculum Night, 2022 - 2023

We are excited to host our next parent/guardian event of the school year. Our Curriculum Night is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13, 2022. This event is an adult-only event and will provide a lens into your student's learning this school year. While curriculum will be touched on, you will also have another opportunity to learn more about the classroom teacher and to better understand the safety and positive culture that is in place. Please understand that this evening is not intended for discussions about individual students. Those opportunities can be established via phone call or email and during parent-teacher conferences as well.

Each classroom teacher will be offering two times to meet with you to better support your schedules and for those of you who have more than one student at our school. Parking will be tight, and we are expecting many adults in the building during the second session. Please consider walking if proximity and weather permit, and please keep in mind that this event is adult-only.

Fall Benchmark Assessments

We will conduct benchmark assessments three times again this year--fall, winter, and spring. Our Aimsweb assessments (that focus on reading fluency) are already underway or completed, and our MAP assessments (that focus on academic standards for reading and math) will take place next week. Here are the dates that each grade level is currently scheduled to administer the MAP assessments:

KDG - 09/06; 09/08

1st Grade- 09/06; 09/08

2nd Grade- 09/06; 09/08

3rd Grade(Cardinal): 09/06; 09/07; 09/08 (if needed)

3rd Grade(Fulton): 09/06; 09/08

4th Grade: 09/07; 09/08

5th Grade - 09/06; 09/07

6th Grade - 09/06; 09/07; 09/09 (if needed)

A good night's sleep, a solid breakfast, and some extra encouragement really go a long way in helping students do their very best.

Expectations; District Policies

Teachers and staff have been working hard during our first seven days of school to create positive classroom and school cultures, to set up routines, to discuss growth mindset, and most importantly, to help students understand that Belle Aire is a safe place to come to every day. As I visit with students and staff throughout the day, the reports of this year's start are overwhelmingly positive. We will continue to partner together and with you to help that remain the case throughout the year.

This week, I specifically visited with each classroom to discuss district and school expectations with students. The information that I discussed with the students mirrored what classroom teachers had already discussed which is also in line with the student handbook and school board policy. Topics focused on being kind, working hard, the Golden Rule, being assertive, seeking adult support/help, safety, responsibility, bullying and threats not having a place at Belle Aire, etc.
