INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE

May 27, 2022

Dear SCPS Families and Staff,

As we close the school year today, I would like to thank our teachers, administrators, parents, and students for their resilience. I am proud of the work made by all to create connections, engage, and succeed.

It goes without saying that the 2021-22 school year has undoubtedly been a memorable one, including ending the last day of school with a tornado warning. Today, we stand at the finish line, and despite the challenges, we celebrate the many accomplishments that continued our work to improve student outcomes. Our teachers and staff provided extraordinary learning experiences and support services for students and families. For the first time in two years, we culminated the year by hosting in-person graduations with the entire graduating class present.

I would be remiss without acknowledging the tragedy that occurred this week at the Uvalde elementary school. We understand that we are entrusted with your children and we strive to keep safety our priority. The school division and School Board continue to work in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office to enhance our safety measures, which include annual safety audits, meeting regularly with the Sheriff and Safety Taskforce, secured entry ways, and SROs in our schools. Throughout this summer we will be providing safety tips and information to support our families. Please be sure to follow our division's social media sites for this information.

It is important to note that we have already begun preparations for the upcoming school year, which include professional learning opportunities for our educators, Kindergarten registration, Summer Connections for rising 6th graders, immunization clinics and much more. We look forward to an amazing year ahead.

In closing, it has been an honor to serve as your interim Superintendent these past several months. I want you to know how inspired I am by the strength of our students and the dedication of our teachers, staff, parents, and community.

Thank you and I wish you all a safe and restful summer.

Dr. Carol E. Flenard
Interim Superintendent
