Daisy Troop 2209
October Update
Hi Troop 2209 Parents!
- Learned the Girl Scout Promise and Law (see below)
- Practiced Girl Scout Sign and Handshake. The three fingers in the Girl Scout sign represent the three parts of the Promise. The handshake is made by shaking hands with the left hand and making the Girl Scout sign with the right. The left hand is nearest to the heart and signifies friendship.
- Discussed what it means to make a promise.
- Made their first SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere.)
- Decorated a Troop pumpkin for the Gorrie Fall Festival pumpkin display.
- Learned two songs: "Make New Friends" and "Girl Scout Smile"
- Formed their first friendship circle. The friendship circle stands for an unbroken chain of friendship with Girl Scouts around the world. Everyone stands in a circle, crosses their right arms over their left, and clasps hands with their friends on both sides. Everyone makes a silent wish as a friendship squeeze is passed from hand to hand.
Next meeting, Tuesday, November 19:
We will work on the "Honest & Fair" part of the Girl Scout Law.
Please ask your daughter if there is anything they'd like to do during our meeting. We are open to ideas and want our meeting to be as child-led as possible. If she has an idea for an activity for Honest & Fair, please email or call us.
NOTE: We are changing the pick up. We will now be at the back of the Horizon Bay building, nearest the parking lot. Park in the lot and enter through the back gate. We plan to head downstairs at 3:20pm to do the friendship circle and our goodbye. We will finish at 3:30pm.
Iron on this Patch: Blue Promise Center
TIP: it is tricky to fit the daisy petals and the leaves on the tunic. It is best to line up the center by laying out the entire flower so you can see how much room you need to leave for each of the petals and the stem and leaves. Just apply the center blue patch though. We'll send a note each month with the petal the girls have learned and when to add each one.

Some Items to Practice for the Investiture Ceremony
Please help your daughter practice the Girl Scout Promise, Law, Sign and Handshake. She will need to recite these at the upcoming (TBD) Investiture Ceremony. At this event, she will receive her Daisy Girl Scout Pin.
The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Songs
Make New Friends
Make new friends
but keep the old.
One is silver
and the other’s gold.Girl Scout Smile Song
I have something in my pocket
That belongs across my face
I keep it very close at hand
In a most convenient place
I’m sure you couldn’t guess it
If you guess a long, long while
So I’ll take it out and put it on
It’s a great big Daisy smile!
