Message from the Principal
Happy New Year! Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we are off to a very good start, does it?
Just when you think things can't get any worse...
I wish you health, happiness and safety this year! I hope that our students can continue to learn to love and respect each other. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr, "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear". I hope for a peaceful transition of power on January 20th!
If you would like ideas on how to talk to your child about the horrific events that occurred at the Capitol on Wed. here is a good resource in English and Spanish.
It was great to see all of our students and families at the materials distribution pick up yesterday. The students have all grown so much, I didn't recognize many of them. Without having seen them in so long, I have forgotten names and faces. I truly did not think we would go this long without being able to see our students. I feel very sad about it.
I struggle with my own children as well. I have a 15 year old who barely managed to pass his first semester of High School, a 12 year old with Special Needs, and my 5th grader here at CCLA. Trust me, I know how difficult this is for all. I hope that 2021 brings some clarity and direction to our school system in terms of being able to have students return to classes.
We are working with our District COVID Coordinator to get approval to be able to see students in small groups (ten students) in person at school. Our Restorative Specialist, Jordan Jacobs, along with our Library Tech, Iris Calderon, will start to see a Boys Club and Girls Club on Wednesdays. We will be getting in touch with students who will be invited to participate. We also hope to set up two cohorts for students who are home alone. Maestra Larios, our TK teacher, has also submitted an application to be able to see a small cohort two times per week during her office hours. We are excited and hopeful to have some students back in person and would love to add more if we have more staff and/or volunteers!
We know that many of our families have been hit hard financially with the strains of COVID 19. We are looking at ways other families at our school can help. Please fill out this Google Form if your family is in need of extra support. https://forms.gle/3kPGnyxw7XYoAECt9

Incoming TK/K Registration: We should have a Google Form on the school website between 1/15-2/15. All incoming children (including siblings of a CCLA student) must fill that out in order to enter TK/K. Remember, in years past, we have had to hold a lottery, as we have had more interest in our program than space. If you DO NOT fill out the form, your child will miss the deadline and spots may be filled by other students. Again, all interested students, including siblings of current CCLA students, must have the Google Form filled out. If you have any questions, please call the office.
Current TK students automatically roll over to Kindergarten, you do not need to fill anything out if your child is currently in TK.
7th & 8th Grade Enrollment: Please spread the word - we will be enrolling soon for our 7th and 8th grade program. We have a Newcomer Strand, World Language, and Traditional strand for any student not coming from a dual immersion school!
