From: Mrs. Boice, Mrs. Eisenhofer and Mrs. Lampe
2nd Quarter, December 7-11th
Good afternoon parents, We have one more week to go before winter break. Please read t the updates from each of your teachers below.
Also, the Cougar Team will be having a holiday party on Friday, December 18th in the afternoon. We will be enjoying some snacks and watching the movie, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Your student is able to bring a pillow or blanket on Friday to use while they watch the movie.
Have a great weekend.
Language Arts/Social Studies
This week in ELA:
We spent the week comparing and contrasting text, videos and poetry. As a class we looked at different stories regarding Mt. Vesuvius and it's destruction of Pompaii. The students were very fascinated by this.
For classwork/homework students used Blendspace. Most students did very well with this new system. It is important for students to complete each box in order and not skip around.
Next week we will still be comparing and contrasting. We will having fun looking at a variety of Christmas and Holiday stories that I am sure the students will enjoy.
In order to participate in the holiday unit, students will have to have their past due work complete. All students know this and hopefully will be working diligently this weekend to complete all assignments.
Math
MATH
This week in math, students practiced finding equivalent ratios, unit rates and using ratio tables to solve real world problems. Next week we will be finishing up with the last two standards of the quarter: 6.RP.3c Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 and solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
6.RP.3d. Use ratio reasoning to convert measurement units; manipulate and transform units appropriately when multiplying or dividing quantities.

SCIENCE
Wow, have we had a super busy week in science. In addition to our unit on the periodic table and understanding elements, students have started to delve into the process of their Gateway Project. We have been finalizing our topics, reflecting on our first quarter experiences with our Genius Hour projects and starting to learn about the process of research and using good research tools.
