Scott 6th Grade Center's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
Technology 1:1 Agreement
Last week at Scott all students were given their new chromebooks and chargers. The chromebooks are in cases in the hopes that it will prevent damage. Students have been reminded that the chromebooks they have been given are to last them until 9th grade when they will trade them in for newer ones.
Please make sure that you have paid the Technology Insurance Fee (TIF) for your student. It is a $40 fee that covers any accidental damage. If you have not paid the TIF and there is damage or loss of the chromebook you will be responsible for the entire cost. The TIF is a yearly fee that needs to be paid. You can pay it by clicking on the Revtrak link on the District homepage and then clicking on Technology. https://coatesvillearea.revtrak.net/
Our families that receive state benefits through COMPASS (SNAP, TANF, some Medical Assistance) are eligible for the TIF waiver. The business office worked confidentially to upload information into RevTrak. RevTrak now has a link added specifically for those families who feel they qualify for Free/Reduced benefits through COMPASS. Once you login to RevTrak and click on the Technology category, you can select "Technology Insurance Fee - Free and Reduced Lunch". You will enter your student's name, ID # and school and it will pull up their information with a $0 balance. You should still proceed with add to cart and complete the process; however, it will show a $0 balance throughout the process (whereas the regular TIF would have a $40 balance).
Please read through the Technology 1:1 Handbook and Expectations. Students will be coming home with the last page that you both need to sign and return to school.
What Has Been Happening on Our Second Floor?
Students have gotten off to a great start on the second floor. This past week, students started reading their first novel of the school year, Bud, Not Buddy in ELA and will be starting their Acadience benchmark testing this week. In Math, students are working hard in Spring Math and IXL to become fluent in their Math facts. Mrs. Nagy's class has been working on differentiating the different components of Earth Science. They have been learning the fundamentals of Geology, Astronomy, Oceanography, and Meteorology. Mr. Harre's Social Studies classes started out by learning about how and why we study history.
Golden Ticket Prize Winners for September
Congratulations to our September Golden Ticket prize winners! Last Friday, ten Golden Tickets were pulled from the box in the main office. Golden Tickets are earned when students go above and beyond our expectations of Respect, Ownership, Courage, Kindness and Safety. Staff give them to students when they are really impressed. The following 10 students were given the choice of a Fall craft activity or a sweet treat at lunch.
Congratulations to: Nyla Glassco, Maggie Smith, Daniela Lopez, Drake Ly, EugeneTiggett, Jasmine White, Elizabeth Abbott, Za'Karr Thompson, Matteo Hamelton Del Castillo, and Bryheem Alston.
Keep up the great work! We are so proud of you!
September's Student of the Month- Symphony Bryant
Congratulations to our Student of the Month, Symphony Bryant! Symphony has had a great start to the school year earning multiple golden ROCKStar tickets, and has impressed her 4th floor teachers. Here is what was said about her. Symphony is always attentive. She takes notes while I am teaching, even when I don't ask the kids to do so. Symphony studies and always does her best. She is responsible and asks about her grades and completes everything on time. We are so proud of you, Symphony. Keep up the great work!
Employee of the Month for September- Mrs. D'Angelo
We want to congratulate our Employee of the Month for September, Mrs. Jan D'Angelo. Mrs. D'Angelo is new to our Scott family this year and she has been a wonderful addition. As our new Reading Specialist, Mrs. D'Angelo supports students and staff to achieve the best they can. Mrs. D'Angelo always has a smile on her face every morning when she stops by the office. She is always willing to help in any way she can. Mrs. D'Angelo is a true team player. Congratulations, Mrs. D'Angelo! We are so happy you are here at Scott.
We also want to congratulate our runners up: Mr. Dougherty, Ms. Russum, and Mr. Monroe. All three staff members were given a gift card to treat themselves at Wawa. We have an amazing team here at Scott!
Focus on Bus Behavior for the Month of October
Mr. Altland and Mrs. Lamothe met with students during lunches for team meetings last Friday. During the meetings students were congratulated for a great start to the school year. Then a discussion about bus expectations occurred. There have been a lot of bus referrals coming in to Scott, and students were reminded of the rules on the bus. They are to stay seated in their seats, be kind to the students around them, and be respectful to the bus driver.
For the month of October we will be rewarding students for good bus behavior. Any students that do not have a bus referral during the month of October will be able to participate in a school wide kickball tournament the first week of November. We are hoping that ALL our Scott students will be able to participate.
Please feel free to go over the expectations with your students. I have attached our policy below.

Would You Like to Volunteer at Scott?
We have started the year off well and are looking forward to a successful 2023-2024 school year. As you know, it takes a village! I would love to invite families that are able to volunteer time at Scott. That time can look like supporting in our library, reading with students, making copies, helping on our fun days, or even chaperoning a field trip.
If this is something you are interested in, please see the attached document outlining rules, expectations, and needed paperwork.
Code of Conduct
We have had a great start to the school year at Scott, and I know our students will continue to follow the expectations for the school year. We will continue to review and reinforce rules in classrooms, teams and as a whole school.
The School Board approved our 2023-2024 Code of Conduct. Please click on the link below to read the code of conduct. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Nurse's Corner
A few reminders for our families:
- Please return Emergency Health Form, if not already done.
- Send a refillable water bottle with your student to keep hydrated.
- Fall allergy season has started. It's a good time to start with daily medication such as Zyrtec or Claritin (please check with your child's doctor for medication advise)
- School does not provide seasonal allergy medication.
- All 6th grade students require a physical. Physicals exams are expected to be completed by the end of winter break.
Gently Used Clothing Needed for Our Nurse's Office
We are looking for donations of gently used clothing for our nurse's office. Shirts, shorts, pants, sweatshirts, and socks would be greatly appreciated. Please send clean donations in a bag labeled for the nurse.
