Halloween at Ferson Creek
Halloween is on Monday, October 31st. This year, we will hold our Halloween parade outside at 1:45 pm. Parents are welcome to view the parade from the blacktop area behind the school. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will move to the gym. Classroom celebrations will take place after the parade. While wearing costumes is optional, there are a few guidelines:
- Props representing weapons are not allowed.
- Students should not wear costumes which promote gore, violence, or inappropriate imagery.
- No costume face coverings or masks can be worn.
October 31st – Classroom Celebrations
Pre-arranged volunteers should plan to sign in and have their license scanned, and get their visitor’s badges just prior to the start of the classroom celebrations. Our celebrations are scheduled from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM. Our parties will not include food or drinks, other than water. This is also true for any gift or party bags that are being sent home. Please help us with this by not sending in any food items, including candy, to be distributed to students.
From Nurse Holloway
There has been an increase of RSV in the community. According to the CDC, respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-uhl) virus, or RSV, is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious, especially for infants and older adults. RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia (infection of the lungs) in children younger than 1 year of age in the United States. People infected with RSV usually show symptoms within 4 to 6 days after getting infected. Symptoms of RSV infection usually include
Runny nose
Decrease in appetite
Coughing
Sneezing
Fever
Wheezing
These symptoms usually appear in stages and not all at once. In very young infants with RSV, the only symptoms may be irritability, decreased activity, and breathing difficulties.
According to CUSD 303 absence guidelines, students must be 24 hours fever free prior to returning back to school. A fever is a temperature of 100 degrees F or greater. Students with a persistent, productive cough must remain home as well. Masking remains optional for all students.
There are steps you can take to help prevent the spread of RSV. Specifically, if you have cold-like symptoms you should
Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper shirt sleeve, not your hands
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
Avoid close contact, such as kissing, shaking hands, and sharing cups and eating utensils, with others
Clean frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and mobile devices

Veterans Day Assembly
We are excited to welcome back our in-person Veterans Day assembly. This year we will be celebrating Veterans Day on November 11th! Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor American veterans of all wars. Many of us know or have known men and women in our families or friends who have served in the armed forces to defend our country. This year we would like to take time to honor these individuals by acknowledging their time served and to honor them at an assembly beginning at 9:00 am on that day.
If there is a veteran that you would like to recognize by having them included in our Veterans Day video, please email our LRC director Renee Ignoffo at sharon.ignoffo@d303.org. In your email, please include your child's name, the veteran's name, the veteran's relation to your child, a picture of the veteran, and branch of the military. Please send all pictures to Mrs. Ignoffo no later than Tuesday, November 1st.
If your child has someone in your family, or a friend of your family, who they would like to invite to attend our assembly please rsvp to Audrey Hughes at audrey.hughes@d303.org, no later than Friday, November 4th so that we can plan accordingly.
