NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
24 June 2021
Dear Parents and Staff
The news that we had progressed to Phase 5 of the COVID-19 coronavirus: WA Roadmap was very encouraging when released last Sunday, however, we were quickly reminded of how tenuous these arrangements may be when a 14 day mandatory quarantine was put in place for those travelling to WA from Sydney after the recent outbreaks of the virus there. We have lived for a considerable amount of time in such a safe environment that the national and international implications of the virus appear to somehow not apply to us. This is not the case, and we must remain vigilant at all times if we are to stay safe. Whilst Phase 5 has been introduced in WA, I believe it is prudent for us to move forward cautiously and, though the following have been approved, we will continue to follow the processes that have been in place regarding Assemblies, gatherings at school and access to classrooms for the time being. We may make some alterations to these as the next school Term progresses but for now the status quo will prevail.

REPORTS
These will be available online via SEQTA ENGAGE from 4.00pm tomorrow. Please contact the school office if you experience any difficulties.
PARENT/TEACHER MEETINGS – PUPIL FREE DAY
These will be held next Friday, 2 July, between 7.30am and 1.00pm and I encourage all parents to make an appointment via the PTO app on the school website as these meetings are a critical opportunity for teachers to expand upon the limited information that may be conveyed in the Semester Reports. The meetings are of 10 minutes duration, and I ask that this is adhered to so that everyone may be accommodated throughout the morning. If parents feel that they require additional time, please make an appointment to meet on another occasion.
ASSEMBLIES
I have heard from Brother Stephen and some of the Student Leaders that the Year 3M class has prepared a very engaging Assembly for tomorrow to finish up our performance Assemblies for the Term. I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing about all of the great things that they have been doing. Two members from each child’s family are invited to join us, as are both of the Kindy classes as a special outing to the “Big School”.
Our final Assembly for this Semester will be a Merit Assembly next Thursday at 8.50am and, weather permitting, this will be held in the Mother Mary Piazza.
MASS
There will be a whole school Mass next Wednesday at 8.45am in the Church to celebrate the end of a very happy, safe and successful Term at Notre Dame Catholic Primary. Parents and family members are most welcome to join with us for this celebration.
PARKING
Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to have been much change to the dangerous habits of those who choose to drop and collect children by stopping in the streets around our school thus putting the children at great risk and creating havoc. One of the things you often hear in leadership is to not just take problems to others but to try to provide solutions. Whilst I believe we have been proactive in suggesting options, here is another.
- As the Kindy and Pre-Primary Years require direct handover of children from parents to teachers they need to park so that they can walk into the school. I certainly don’t want to lessen the great community spirit of our school but, perhaps those parents who have older children could utilise the drive through drop off in the mornings to reduce the pressure on parking. This area is supervised by staff every day from 8.00am until 8.45am which is our most critical time.
DATES TO REMEMBER
- This Term concludes for 4 Y.O. Kindy next Wednesday, 30 June, and for all other classes on Thursday 1 July.
- Our last day of Term will be a Free Dress day and children are asked to bring a gold coin donation to support the Archbishop’s Lifelink Appeal.

NOTRE OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE
We have had so much fun the last couple of weeks. We have been learning how to make bracelets and necklaces from loom bands. The children were so eager to learn how to make them that by the end of the week most children knew how to make the bracelets from scratch.
The children are all so creative when it comes to Lego and they come up with some great things. They have made things like robots, castles and automobiles. We also introduced Duplo to the younger children who absolutely loved playing with it and making all sorts of animals.
We also used our fine motor skills when we were playing with Playdough. We were making things like cupcakes, snakes and practising making our letters.
The children really enjoy their outdoor play and finding the biggest sand ball. They created some great sandcastles and love to play king of the pack with their buddies.

PARENTS' & FRIENDS ASSOCIATION NEWS
The P&F will be running the Cards that Count Program again in 2021. For those who are not familiar with this initiative, it allows your child’s unique artwork to be transformed into professionally printed Christmas Cards that can be distributed to family and friends. Blank templates are available from the front office. Each template has a unique code that you will need when ordering your cards online (further information to be provided in term 3 when online ordering opens).
Please see the information sheet attached. Templates need to be returned to the front office by 23rd July 2021. This will allow plenty of time for the cards to be produced and returned to families by early November, to beat the Christmas post deadlines.
If you have any questions, please contact P&F member Nicole on bent_mb20@hotmail.com or Samantha on info@cardsthatcount.com.au.
