Who Is Stacy Lampkin?
Stacy Lampkin grew up in the city of Hamtramck, MI. As a child she enjoyed playing Monopoly and watching her favorite TV shows, The Cosby Show, Moesha, and The Fresh Prince. She has been an avid reader since as long as she can remember. Series like The Baby Sitters Club and R.L. Stine kept her head in the books in Elementary. Her first taste of Urban Fiction was “Flyy Girl” by Omar Tyree which ultimately led to her love for and transition to reading urban novels.
At the age of 11, Stacy wrote her first story with her cousin. Falling in love with the idea of creating her own characters and story plots, she officially started writing as a hobby. All throughout middle school, she would pass around her binders of stories to her friends, sharing her creativity. She wrote a total of 8 stories as a middle schooller. As a Ferndale High School student, Stacy continued to write as a hobby, even winning a Detroit Free Press Writing Award her freshman year.
After high school, Stacy attended the University of Michigan where she graduated in 2015. During her senior year, she decided she would write a brand new story in which she planned to publish. While working full time, operating a community organization & working part time as a self-employed private tutor, Stacy finished her first novel. Urban Lit meets Teen/Young Adult in “Young and Ambitious”. This novel, based in Detroit, gives teens a taste of what they have been missing in the literary world: something they can relate to.
Stacy plans to edit and publish some of her archived stories from middle school as well as write new books.
