February 11 - Family Virtual Literacy and Art Activity

On February 11, 2021, we will be hosting our virtual literacy and art activity. Building self-confidence helps our child become more resilient and independent. Get involved in this literacy and art activity to create a quality learning experience at home. Please, take a picture of you and your child reading together and e-mail it to patricia.chavez@allenisd.org

At school students:

  • Students will receive the activity materials at school with details and instructions.


At home students:

  • Parents will pick up activity materials at Boyd Elementary on February 11, 2021 from 8:00am-3:00pm

Valentine's Day - No Deliveries

To prevent any transmission of COVID-19, we will not be passing out Valentine's Day cards or candy that has been brought from home.


We understand that students will miss having a candy treat that day, and we want them to celebrate Valentine's Day. Therefore, we are currently preparing for every student a small treat bag with candy and a pencil. These bags will be put together using gloves and then sit for at least 3 days prior to being provided to students.


On February 12, In Person students will receive their treat bags at school. The At Home students can pick-up their treat bags from the teachers at 10:00-11:00 during the asynchronous time. This is intended just as a small treat and At Home students are not required to pick-up.


Please do not send any candy or treat with your students to share with friends. If you would like for them to give their friends candy or cards, please consider the option of purchasing Candy Grams next week.

6th Grade Parents - Immunization Requirement for 7th Grade

In order to comply with entry requirements for 7th Grade, your student will be required to have the following immunizations:

  • Tdap (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis)
  • Meningococcal

Turn in proof of immunization to Nurse Terry as soon as possible.

Take-Home Skill: Making Amends for Kids

Like adults, children can find themselves in situations where they recognize they’ve hurt or wronged someone either on purpose or by accident.


Although you might be tempted to ask your child to say they’re sorry, not all apologies are effective. A more helpful approach is to invite your child to think about how to make amends by following the steps below.


  1. Empathize: Begin a conversation—either about something that happened to your child, or about a story your child is reading or watching where one character harmed another, regardless of their intention. Open by helping your child notice how the victim could be feeling.
  2. Brainstorm Actions to Help: Ask your child, “What do you think you (or the character) could do to help right now?” Encourage them to move beyond a perfunctory and half-hearted “Sorry” to think about possible actions they could take to alleviate the hurt or right the wrong. This could be helping someone rebuild a tower of cards that they knocked over, bringing an ice pack to someone who tripped over their foot, re- placing someone’s markers that they let dry out, or asking someone they left out of a game to play with them.
  3. Act: Encourage your children to commit to an act of reparation (like the examples above) alongside their apologies.

  • Maintain a sense of calm by using your own coping skills

Gifted Testing & Parent Information Meeting

Each year, Allen ISD hosts an informational meeting for parents providing information on the district’s Gifted and Talented services. This year’s informational meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be facilitated via Zoom webinar. To join the webinar meeting, please go to https://zoom.us/s/91674840215. There is no need to register for the meeting. The recording of the meeting will be posted to the Gifted & Talented Services webpage for those who cannot attend the live webinar session and for those who wish to review a recording of the information.


This year, Allen ISD will begin offering the computerized version of the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) for all students in grades 1-11 who test for potential gifted identification. All students interested in participating in phase I of testing for potential gifted identification will take this administration of the CogAT onsite. Separate testing sessions will be offered for in-person and at-home learners. Registration for phase I testing for students currently in grades 1-11, opens January 26, 2021 and closes February 5, 2021. In Person Leaners - Do not send student to school with ANY COVID-19 symptoms

Daily Self-assessment

Everyone has to do their part to reduce the spread of COVID. Each day parents are asked to assess their students prior to sending them to school. The self-screening consists of parents answering questions regarding exposure to and symptoms of COVID-19. If your child or someone in the home has symptoms that may be COVID-19, please do not send the student to school. For example: If a parent or sibling has multiple symptoms and is being tested, please do not send the student until you have the result from the test confirmed negative. Contact the school nurse for guidance if you are not sure.


Students should not be sent to school if;

  • they have been in close contact with any person with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 10 days (CDC updated this time from 14 days to 10 days)
  • they have been diagnosed with COVID-19 until released by the doctor, or
  • they exhibit any of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit.


Students that have had close contact, been diagnosed with COVID-19, or are exhibiting any of the symptoms will need to communicate with Nurse Phillips at 972-727-0560.

Due to our current COVID guidelines, the PTA has been unable to grow our membership as we have traditionally done in the past. Our school benefits greatly from the PTA’s membership income each year.

Free and Reduced Lunch Application

It is an unusual year due to coronavirus disruptions. Nevertheless, one thing has not changed, parents need to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. This is important data because it can impact school funding from federal grants. The Title 1 federal grant provides our school with funding for additional staff and resources needed to meet the needs of all of our students.



If you qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch, please assist our school in receiving the needed funding to meet the needs of all of our students by completing the Free and Reduced Lunch Application.

The compact is another word for “contract” or “agreement.” The Boyd Elementary Parent – Student – Teacher Compact is an agreement between parents, students, and the school (teachers and staff) to foster student achievement. Daily meal pick-up will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Student nutrition personnel will greet and assist at the pick-up area. Heating instructions will be provided daily with meals.


Parents/guardians will need to provide proof of AISD enrollment (Student ID#).
