Lent Begins

Reflection for Lent from Deacon Mike Madden

Are you ready for the joy of Lent?

That’s an odd question. Most people don’t associate Lent with joy. But, we should, for several reasons.

First of all, the main reason for Lent is to prepare for Easter. The entire season of Lent is looking forward to Easter joy! In fact, one of the foundations of the Lenten season is the final period of preparation for receiving the sacraments for the first time at the Easter Vigil, by the new members of the church.

During Lent, we journey with those who are preparing to join the church. Even if we have no one entering the church in our own parish, we symbolically walk with those from other places who are on this great journey of a lifetime. It should be a joyous thing, like preparing for a wedding! We are, actually!

Easter is the great feast of the wedding of the Lamb of God with his people, the Church.

Another reason for rejoicing during Lent is simply that we acknowledge the great superiority of God. We have a God who is Father to us, and his glory and magnificence are breathtaking! We recognize ourselves to be so small in the face of God’s grandeur that it inspires us to penance and all the other Lenten activities. We desire union with our great Father God, and we realize how much he desires union with us, despite our littleness. This also should bring us joy, even in our penitential activities, because

we know the end of all of this is true unity with the Trinity.

One indication of how important Easter is to us as Church is that, if you count Lent and then the full Easter season up to the feast of Pentecost, it’s a full quarter of a year!

We spend three full months, either preparing or actually celebrating, the Easter season. It reminds us that we truly are “Easter People”.

So, let’s get ready for Lenten joy!

Scrip Helps You Save on Tuition!

Scrip is a great way to support the school and save yourself some money on tuition!

How Scrip Works: You buy Scrip to purchase everyday products (ex: gas, groceries, etc). The company donates a percentage back to the school when you use Scrip for your purchases. You get half of that amount as a savings on your tuition and the other half goes towards the school. For example, if you buy $100 Shell card, they give 10% back. Therefore, $10 is given back; $5 comes off of your tuition and $5 goes to the School.

How to Buy Scrip:

1) Scrip is sold after the following Masses:

- Saturday, 4pm Mass @ Askeaton

- Sunday, 8am Mass @ Greenleaf

- Sunday, 10am Mass @ Wrightstown

2) Scrip is sold at school on Wednesdays

3) Scrip can be purchased using the RaiseRight App

How to Sign Up:
