Kindergarten Class News

Language Arts
The sight word list that I send home every week is getting longer! It is so much fun to see how the students' reading and writing has improved over the last couple of months! Please encourage this growth at home by reading and writing with your child!
Our "Big Idea" for this week and next is: How do weather and seasons affect us? We discussed how we have to dress for certain types of weather, what activities can be done in certain seasons and not in others, and how it affects the outdoors! We read a story entitled Mama, Is It Summer Yet? about a little boy who can't wait for summer as his mother patiently points out the changing seasons to him through various activities. We will be focusing on the letters "Bb" and "Ll" and the words little and is.
Math
We starting practicing addition this week and I can't believe how quickly they are all catching on! The Kindergarteners learned what it means to "join" two groups of objects together and that when you add two "parts" together, you get a "whole". I also started allowing the students to work more independently this week and they have blown me away with how self sufficient they are getting to be.
Science
Science this week continued on with the discussion of landforms, bodies of water, and Earth's surface. We also had a talk about how we can care for our beautiful planet (turning of lights when they aren't needed, picking up trash, carpooling, etc.).
Check out our story on Class Dojo for a couple of video clips of the art project we worked on this afternoon!
