Note from Ms. Moulton
Greetings, Hosmer Families,
I cannot believe that we are heading into the final full week of the school year! The end of the school year is full of events and, while some of our events have shifted, this will definitely be a busy week and a half.
Parent Conferences continue this week and there is a half day of school on Wednesday.
Wednesday is the PTO Huskies DanceFit Fundraiser.
Funds raised will support next year's PTO activities. PTO provides funding for enrichment opportunities for all grades including field trips and school-wide activities including Literacy Week and International Week.
Please help to support our school by registering your child on www.funrun.com and sharing that link on your social media pages.
As students register, the whole school will celebrate! We are currently at 42% registration so Mrs. Fitzpatrick and I will be playing Pie Face tomorrow. Don't worry, there will be a video! :)
Help us get to 60% so that we can celebrate '80's Day with some dancing!
Class Assignments & Move Up Day
On the last day of school (next Tuesday), students will learn their class assignment for the coming year and have the opportunity to meet their teacher. This assignment will be communicated to parents in the students' final report cards, which they will also receive that day.
Thank you for your continued support of our wonderful school.
Erin Moulton

Celebrating Our Fifth Graders
Each year fifth-graders enjoy many end-of-year activities and events that culminate their elementary years at Hosmer. Being that this year has been a unique year, so will our celebrations! Last week, students walked to Arsenal Yards to see a movie together - "Raya and the Last Dragon". This Friday students will enjoy an afternoon Block Party with music, food, and games. We thank you in advance for your flexibility and excitement to embrace this change on behalf of your child. Please note that this celebration is for the students only. I realize some families were expecting a Moving On ceremony but it just isn't possible with space and coronavirus restrictions.
A special thank you to the parent volunteers who have been working diligently with teachers and administration to plan and organize the exciting events for the fifth-grade class.
We're Celebrating Juneteenth by Learning from Read Alouds
As Juneteenth approaches we look forward to sharing books with each grade level in K-5 around this important holiday. Texts such as All Different Now by Angela Johnson and Juneteenth for Maizie by Floyd Cooper, will be read aloud. Students in grade 5 will study Juneteenth through their current Social Studies unit as well.
“Described as a second independence day, June 19th or Juneteenth marks the day that emancipation reached slaves in the furthest reaches of the South. While the Emancipation Proclamation proclaimed that all slaves held within the rebellious states were freed, plantation life continued as though no change had occurred in many parts of the slaveholding South until this day. Juneteenth is a time to reflect upon this history, including the steps toward freedom that have been achieved and the forces that continue to undermine the freedom of African Americans.”

Watertown Public Schools Visual Art Show
As our community transitioned from remote to in-person this school year, our students, our projects, the way we taught and the way we interacted adapted. Throughout all those changes, the common thread of creative engagement persevered. Our amazing students came to art classes ready to engage, challenge themselves and learn new skills and concepts. Our artistic community is resilient and creative! The Watertown Fine, Applied, and Performing Arts Department believes in the power of art to heal, empower, and inspire. In this spirit, we present our second virtual WPS Art Show!

Getting Ready for the Summer
TOMORROW is the Last Day to Request to Borrow a Chromebook for Summer Learning
This summer students will have access to online learning resources, like i-Ready and Zearn math. If you would like your student to access these resources AND you do not have a device at home for them to use, please fill out this form to reserve a Chromebook for summer. One form needs to be filled out per student.
Please note that there are limited devices available so families that have a device at home should not request a school-issued Chromebook.
All students will be required to pick up the device on June 22nd between 1:00 and 2:15 at the Hosmer School, 1 Concord Rd. When you pick up the Chromebook, you will be required to sign a technology agreement.
Monday, June 14th is the final day to request a device to borrow for summer learning.

Are You Planning to Ride the Bus Next Year? - DEADLINE is THIS TUESDAY June 15th!
2021-22 Bus Information for Hosmer Elementary School and the Middle School
School bus transportation is available to the Hosmer School and the Middle School from shared pickup points throughout Watertown. All students must register for the bus each year, even if the student rode the bus in a prior year.
Bus ridership determination is based solely on walking distance (as determined by the business office) to the school that the child attends. Please note that other criteria apply: transportation is not available to students who live less than 0.75 miles' walking distance from their school, or to out-of-neighborhood students (email or call for details).
All registrations received by June 15th will be processed by the WPS Business Office in early July to determine the walking distance. Registrations that are received after June 15th will only be considered if space allows. Depending on the number of registrations we receive, we may have a waitlist for seats even if the registration is submitted by June 15th. Bus routes and scheduled pickup times will be determined based on actual ridership.
Use this online form to register for the 2021-2022 school bus. If you are unable to complete the online form you may mail the registration however we are not responsible for mail that is misdirected or arrives after June 15th, regardless of postmark date. You can also leave completed forms in the black mailbox located next to the right-side stairs in the Phillips Building Parking lot located off of Marshall St.
More information regarding timelines, fees and routes can be found here.
