Happy Fall Ya'll!
That's right, tomorrow is the first day of Fall, my favorite season! Thank you to everyone that participated in our Penny War. The winner will be announced later this week! This week is Start with Hello Week, students are encouraged to be inclusive and will engage in activities that promote respect of individual differences. We will have our Fall Book Fair all week. Students were sent home order forms, so please complete the order form and send in money if you would like for your child to purchase something from our Book Fair. Our Book Fair will also be open Tuesday evening from 5-7 pm if you would like to shop with your child. Speaking of Tuesday night, please join us Tuesday night at our Open House. We will have K-2 from 5-6 pm with sessions starting at 5:00 and 5:30. Open House for grades 3-5 will be from 6-7 pm with sessions beginning at 6 and 6:30. You will only need to attend one session. This is a chance for you to learn more about daily expectations, grade specific assessments, and ways you can help your child succeed at school. This is not a time for individual conferences, but you will be able to sign up for a conference for a later date. Don't worry about dinner Tuesday night because it is Pizza Hut Spirit Night, so you can call in your order and pick it up on the way from Open House. Don't forget to let them know that you are with Swansboro Elementary. Wednesday is Picture Day, so come dressed to impress! On Thursday, interim reports will go home with all students (except Kindergarten students). Please keep in mind that grades are very limited on this first interim because a large portion of class time at the beginning of the year is devoted to getting to know each other and classroom procedures and expectations, as well as, completing beginning of year assessments. Don't forget to utilize PowerSchool to track grades throughout the year (grades 3-5). Your child knows how to get to their grades and can show you if you do not want to set up your own account. Impact Aid cards will also go home with all students on Thursday and need to be returned asap. These cards must be completed and returned for all students and help our schools secure valuable federal funds to support our students. Now for a few quick reminders:1. Please help us promote independent learners by saying your goodbyes in the car or at the main door. No visitors should be walking down to classrooms unless they are approved and have signed in through the main office. This will also help us to keep our campus safe. Thank you for modeling compliance of school rules for our students. Speaking of compliance, if you have not complied with NC Health laws regarding kindergarten health assessments and immunizations, your kid will be suspended beginning Sept. 25th. This is state law, there are no exceptions. Currently we have 666 students and this can make for a very busy car pool. It would be very helpful if some folks could plan to arrive at 3:15 instead of 3:00. This would prevent the lines from backing up onto the highway and could save you some wait time. Also, if multiple families could carpool that would help us be more efficient and help the environment too! Please keep in mind that everyone (students and adults) are expected to be respectful and follow school rules and procedures while on campus. Rules and procedures can be found on our school website as well as our Facebook page in the weekly Smore newsletter. Last but not least, a huge shout out goes to Wyatt Panos and his crew at Response Restoration and Construction for repairing and painting our fence! Thank you so much! Let's make it a great week Pirates!
