Message from Ms. Barkley, Coordinator of Early Learning
Children are very interested in clothes. They talk about clothes, put them on and take them off, compare clothes, and add clothing details to their drawings. We think clothes will make an interesting study.
When we return from break we will be beginning our Clothes Study clothes. Throughout the study, students will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. They will also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas.
What You Can Do at Home
- Talk with your child about clothes. Examine the fabrics together and discuss how the clothes were made. Look at the labels to find out where the clothes were made and identify the fabric.
- Look at pictures from the past and note how the clothing differs from clothing today.
- Teach your child to stitch. Use a large plastic needle and yarn; make stitches on burlap or felt.
- When you shop for clothes, help your child notice how clothes are organized in the store and offer a simple explanation of how you compare prices.
Thank you for playing an important role in our learning
Thank You Antioch 34 School Board
Our School Board was very appreciative and shared the following sentiments:
"Thank you so much for the beautiful video that you, your staff, and the kids put together to thank the Board. I loved it- and couldn’t stop smiling the whole way through. ;) It’s just what I needed! Please tell your staff and the kids that their kind words and pictures meant a lot to us. It’s great to see all the smiling faces in what is no doubt such a difficult year." -Mary Beth Hulting, School Board President
"I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated the video the ELC staff and families put together. It was wonderful seeing all those smiling faces and their participation is a testament to how much they value their learning community." - Angela Baronello, School Board Member
A Message From D34 Health Services Team
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Though we have converted back to a full remote learning model, please realize that your school nurses are still here as a resource to help you through this COVID pandemic. We make every effort to remain up to date with the guidelines outlined by the Lake County Health Department and therefore want to continue being a source of information and guidance to you.
Due to the recent volume of positive cases, the Health Department may not have been able to make phone contact with all of the affected individuals in the county. We are here to help support you through the process and answer your questions about isolation, quarantine, close contacts, and more. The ultimate goal is to keep your family and our community safe and healthy.
We ask that you please continue to keep us informed of positive cases within your household so we can provide guidance and help prevent further spread. You can contact us anytime via email or call our offices. If we are not in the office the day you call, please leave a voicemail as we will be checking our messages daily during regularly scheduled business days. Email is currently the best way to reach us. Please note, absences should still be reported to the attendance hotline.
Our hope is that by working together, we can keep our families and community healthy and get our students back to school as soon as possible. Be well and stay safe.
We are here for you,
