Miss Lotter's Leaders

Parent Newsletter January 4-January 8

Hello parents! I hope that you all had wonderful and restful breaks! We spent this past week getting back into the routine of things and getting used to just a few changes. I am so happy to have the kids back! To see what we have been up to, you can read below!

Math: In math this week, we are continuing our unit on fractions. Be on the look out for a lot of resources over the quarter to support your child in this area.

Language Arts: We will continue accountability in daily five this week! Each day, the students will track their choices and what they accomplished during each round. Students will have the option to listen to reading, read to someone, read to self, work on words, and work on writing.

-We are focusing on how to determine the main idea of an informational text, as well as, how to effectively summarize a text.

In writing, we will be starting a new narrative unit.

Social Studies: We are going to be continuing our unit on economy.

The fourth grade team has decided to flexibly group students for math stating this week. Flex grouping means that we asses how students learn best and group them to support their learning style as we best possibly can. Last week students took a pre-assessment for fractions, the fourth grade team met to grade the assessments and discuss learning styles of all fourth grade students. Beginning on Monday, your student may be going to another classroom for math. All homework will remain the same, what we are teaching will be aligned and planned as a team. As a result, your student will learn in his/her most comfortable way, hopefully leading to better understanding of math skills. We will constantly use weekly assessments or class work to regroup students. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or call me.

We had such an enjoyable first week back at school! Mrs. Dechant came to teach an etiquette lesson in preparation for our Biltmore trip that is coming up soon! Our classroom got a little bit of a makeover! We got a new storage bench so that our carpet area will not be crowded. We also moved the desks around so that all of the students can easily see the board and be engaged in the learning. Lastly, we got a new reading area for daily five!

Also, the moment all of the kids have been waiting for...I got pied in the face for the Fun Run! It was terrifyingly hilarious and the kids had way too much fun with it! Unfortunately, the video will not upload, but if you are dying to see 26 kids throw pie at my face, just let me know and I will email it to you!
