EJES News
October 23, 2020
Dear Families,
As you know, this week you were informed that two students at the elementary school tested positive for COVID-19. Our priority is the safety of our students, staff, and community. We have no greater responsibility than this. In conjunction with the Health Department, the staff at EJPS was very diligent in making sure if a child was affected and required to quarantine both myself and the Health Department contacted families directly.
It is important to remember that children are greatly influenced by the reactions of adults when facing difficult circumstances. We encourage you to be empathetic to the students and families who are directly affected by this situation and should you have any questions to please contact either the school or the Health Department of Northwest Michigan.
Please respect the privacy of families who are dealing with this situation. I ask that you give grace and refrain from judgment on social media, on the school’s Facebook page, and your personal private accounts. Our students and families deserve better.
Thank you for your continued support! Together we are a strong team.

Reverse Halloween Parade on October 30
We ask that families enter the back parking lot through 5th street, cruise slowly through the parking lot, and then exit onto Williams Street. From Williams Street take a right onto Fourth Street and then a right on Garfield. From Garfield take a left onto 6th Street and that will complete the parade route. We will have a lead car showing the way. We can't wait to see you! The parade will begin at 2:35.

FROM THE COUNSELING OFFICE
“Who do you want to be?” This was basically the question I asked students in 3rd-6th grade this week as we introduced the concept of values, character traits and an ethical code. After watching some encouraging videos by Kid President (How to Change the World, 20 Things We Should Say More Often) and looking at various character traits, the students filled out a “Me Survey.” Ask your students how they want people to describe them to hear what values and ethical codes they are starting to live by! I can already hear amazing family discussions about how to choose a life of good character!
Our newly formed “LEAD” leadership team for 6th graders took two big steps the last few weeks! Our “Announcements Team” is in full swing with different students broadcasting the announcements each day and our “Service Team” brainstormed many different ways to make a difference not only at school, but our community as well. Stay tuned for more information on service opportunities!
Have a great weekend and remember, I’m here for you - just an email (sheise@ejps.org) or phone call (x5134) away!

School Climate Survey
Thanks to the 71 EJES families who completed the School Climate Survey regarding our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) during the past few weeks!
The results were positive as well and prove that we're doing great things at our school. Scores were divided into five categories and the mean score was 3.6 out of 4.0. Thanks for supporting our efforts to be EJ Proud!
